    Crankshaft position sensor

I have a 2003 325xi and check engine light came on and code read the crankshaft position sensor, so i ordered the part and changed it. The car is still sluggish and idling high. The light on the dash indicating it's in the safety mode so it runs in like 3rd or 4th gear is on and the eml light is on. Do I need to reset the computer to fix it or what exactly? I really hate not driving my baby. Need help please

I just did this on my 2008. Replaced it with an aftermarket sensor and went straight to limp mode and couldn't clear the code. I ordered an OEM VDO/Siemens one and it started right up, no issues and code cleared right away....

Do not drive the car in limp mode. That's 3rd gear, meaning you're causing slippage in the transmission, which causes damage.

And yes, certainly, you must read all the codes from the engine and transmission and the ABS computers, and write down the wording of these codes, and then clear them.....all using a BMW specific diagnostic device.

And, as RockOn says, never buy anything but an OE or OEM sensor, from a BMW specialist supplier. If you bought the thing at Autozoo, return it and buy a real one.
