ABS and Brake light on

Hello all ...this is my first using this forum and I'm hoping someone can give me some honest advice. I have a 2002 330i ...ABS and Brake light is on but no other problems whatsoever. The BMW dealership told me that I HAVE to replace the ABS control monitor hydro-something and it can only be purchased from them and installed by them because it has to be registered with the specific VIN # on my car ...$3,700 estimate. I can understand it being pertinent buying an OEM part ...but brand new? From them? Installed only by them? I mean that estimate is almost over blue book value for the entire car. Please help! Thanks

Find someone around you with bimmer software, and get one off eBay. I don't think they have to be encoded tho....I think the ABS/DSC module is plug n play tho.
