Hey Everyone, Long time reader, previous 02' E53 owner, and now back to BMW. I just picked up a 2014 328d. My daily was a 2001 VW TDI with all the bolt ons + stage 2 tune. Loved the torque... It was an amazing car, giving me 50mpg and dependability until the motor fell out. Yes it fell out... I got the motor back in but at 370k miles, she was telling me its over.
Anyway, I want to drop the Bimmer about 1.5"-2". Unfortunately, it has the active suspension like my old S60R had. With the R, you could just lower it and and jack up the rear end when calibrating to make the ECU think all was good.
Has anyone dropped a diesel 3 series with active suspension? I hear things like the struts will go early but really how early? I haven't heard anything negative about lowering one. Can anyone suggest any springs? Coming from a lowered VW, it drives like a 88' Lincoln continental right now.
Can I just put some H&R super sports on and enjoy?
Thanks
Tom
Congrats on the new ride Tom! Other members would need to confirm, but I would guess that you could lower it just like any other car; you may have some sensor issues that you have to address; as the active suspension would drop a code. If you have a tool, you can likely clear the code. Like I said, other members should chime in for this one. Best of luck!
