occasional cloud of smoke from exhaust 2002 x5 3.0i

recently my 2002 X5 3.0i (155,000 mi) started emitting a cloud of smoke from the exhaust pipe. It only lasts 3 or 4 seconds and is gone. It does not seem to be burning oil and has done this 4 or 5 time in the last three weeks. It seems to only be in city driving. I have not noticed this at highway speeds. Also no oil leaking and coolant level ok. I only see it through rear-view mirror so am not sure what color but not black probably blueish. Also no codes or computer messages.

    Smoke:
    Blue is oil burning
white is coolant or in extreme cases fuel
    black is fuel

your crankcase vent valve is maybe going bad or your rings or valve seals are bad.
let it idle for like 15 minutes then mash the gas and see if you blow a huge cloud. If so you are leaking oil into the combustion camber somehow.

    Valve Seals

If it's the valve seals. One member used some the Lucas engine oil stop and had success with it. I would only use as little as possible with your normal oil.

    Since you're at 155,000 mi,
replace CCV and all associated hoses.
