Bought the parts, including the camera + emulator + wiring harness (allows wiring emulator 90% off-vehicle).
I understand the dash part of the install, and I get the camera part except for a couple of extra wires. Looking for, someone who's done this already to ask a few questions.
Thanks!

I actually installed two chinese backup cameras, since the first one was crap.
Just ask here, I'll try to answer.
I also wrote a blog post about installing it, maybe some questions are answered there already:

Thanks, I'll check that out first. I may come back here in a few days with a couple pics to ask you about.

I actually did not include any info on how I did it at all. Haha
Sorry, should have read through that one before.
Unfortunately I don't have the manual which I used there anymore.
I'm sure I can answer any question you have though.
It's probably about wiring?
No prob. I just don't know where these wires connect to:
red wire next to yellow video rca plug
red & black wires next to mini-connector
i think the red & black thats with the mini connector go to OEM back-up bulb (red) and any suitable grounding point (black)?
-- picture is of ONE CABLE, showing both ends.

So I tried getting power from the back-up bulb which did not work as the signal is pulsated.
I have no idea why the instruction say you could do that - maybe for some models it's possible, I don't know.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the short red cable next to the yellow plug is the same as the red cable on the left.
You should double-check using a multimeter.
I got my power from the front where I also attached the multimedia interface which I got for the camera.
There should be enough free mass points next to the tailight, that's where I tapped in.
what chris10o0 says. you need to run power for the camera from somewhere else besides the backup lights. when the car senses to much draw on the backup light, it turns it off, therefore loosing the camera. been there done that. you can ground the camera back there, but that red wire that goes along with the yellow video wire goes to power the camera.

Well, doesn't the red serve as a power source for the camera AND also serve as a trigger so that the camera isn't "running" whenever you are not in reverse?
So where is the right place to pull power and trigger from? I've got PLENTY TO CHOOSE FROM!! Lol

I think I have it...connect the white wire to the red wire up at male end of yellow rca video plug (both reside up at dash area). Then run my wire to the back and to the backup camera, leaving the other end of the red taped off/unused. Run the black to ground.
i say this because 2 things:
1) the camera and emulator were purchased separately not as a kit. The emulator says CAMERA -- 12v -- WHITE (I don't know but I'm guessing this PROVIDES 12v TO the camera from the emulator which gets 12v power from the head unit bundle).
2) at the end of the long wire, there is a connector with 4 pins. One of those pins has continuity with both ends of the red wire (all three linked)
that said, I'm thinking that the white wire provides power. That power gets connected to dash end of red wire. Red wire runs the length of the car then that power goes from pin to female on camera. Power is ALSO now running TO the other end of the red wire, but it's not needed so it gets taped off. (If I didn't have THIS emulator, maybe I'd need that other end of the red wire to pull power from somewhere in the trunk area to run the camera).
unless someone thinks this is wrong, it's what I'll try first. I'll post back here so others in the future may be able to get answers. Or I'll post back totally confused!! Lol
thanks!

Ok I have a question about this as I'm Interested in installing the trunk handle camera. I have small screen no navigation ccc no cic. How would this work? Or do I need to update to cic or dynavin 8.8 media screen?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
So if I'm correct this is handled by my multimedia interface. It's connected to the CAN-bus so it knows when I'm in reverse. That's when the screen is switched to the camera.
As far as I know the cam itself is connected to switched power and is always on. The screen however is only switched when I'm in reverse.
Which interface did you get?
I know mine can switch between the big and the small screen so in theory both are supported.
Edit: Sorry, I just answered to the post I got in my e-mail (i.e. #9) and then I mixed up that one with Nick's question.
I honestly can't tell you how your interface needs to be connected. Mine had a pretty good manual so I just followed that.
Regarding Nick, I answered your question partly:
My interface is able to serve the small 6-something screen so in theory it should be possible. I don't have details on that, though.

Lol, no prob!
Mine came with ZERO instructions, just that sheet I pictured.
Do you still, by chance, have the coding that you used once it was installed?

I didn't code it at all. Everything is done by the interface alone.
However, I do have a CCC, while you have a CIC. I don't think this makes a difference though, as the interface sits between CCC/CIC and screen and can pretty much do anything it wants.
Noooo sh1t!! Wow, if I'd known that I would have started this thing months ago, lol! The only reason I've put it off, since January, is because I wasn't ready to make the trip out to my coder's house again. Man I hope you're right, brother...that would be so nice.

I'm 99.9% sure there's nothing to code there (also all germs are dead now).
Just a hint since you mentioned it:
For me it was practically impossible to pull the cable from the front to the back as the gap between back seats and trunk-base is to small to get anything though there from the front.
However, I have a pre-LCI with fixed back seats - maybe it's different for you.
Just be sure to check before soldering anything in the front.
Thanks.
The way I usually do things like this is to pull the cord/wire/cable from one side or the other and I leave lots of slack on each end. Make connections, test. Pull cord one way or the other to take up slack, secure slack at one end. Button everything up. Usually you can leave a little loop sticking out from underneath door sills to help as a mid-point to move the cable. I've done lots of subs! Lol
thanks!

All of this makes my eyes roll, I have an E61 (12/06)...It has Nav. I was thinking about installing a b/u camera but, the "kit" is $500 and a local BMW tech wants $400 to install it.
Being a semi handy guy but not very (any) tech knowledge, besides running the wires front to back...how hard is the install, and what needs to be done "upfront"
What has it cost you for all the parts?

I've got less than $100 invested...that's emulator, trunk-handle-camera, wiring harness that allowed me to do 90% of the wiring at my kitchen table (4 wires, lol), and a pack of posi-taps (allows tapping into a wire without "hurting" it at all).
HOWEVER, I paid $15 for that wiring harness, and the last time I looked it was selling for $135! I never would have spent that and it could have been a mistake in the listing...dunno.
i think this project can be hit or miss depending on exactly what you order, what auto year and OEM options, CIC vs CCC, etc.

My cam was about $20, the interface was $250
I soldered everything which needed to be connected. It wasn't that much of a deal, however, it took me about a day.
Be sure to check the camera you choose. The first one (which I paid almost $100 for) had a totally useless angle. The $20-cam is fine and has been working for a year now without issues.
What needs to be attached (plugged in/what?) to the dash screen, car has Nav. on an 07 (12/06) E 61...and what parts are needed?

So my setup is as follows:
Rear view cam connects to any mass point you can reach, power and video input at the multimedia-interface.
Said interface is connected to the CAN-bus (to know when I'm in reverse) as well as power and mass (tapped in at the CCC).
Now I'm not 100% sure but that's how it must be:
Screen-cable from the CCC goes to the interface and the interface is then connected with a second cable to the screen.
I think this is why #1 you didn't need to code, and #2 you paid $250 for what others paid $35, and you may have gotten the better deal!! Lol
i spent 90 min with my coding guy trying to get mine to work, no dice. Tried everything including trying to tell my car it came with the reverse camera option. My car just laughed at us!
i think (now after another slew of research hours) we have to tell my car that it came with the infrared Night Vision option to get the camera to work. We'll see.
Just wanted to update in case there were subscribers.
