Hey
My 87 year old Dad has a 2000, BMW 528. It is all good except the radio. It does not work right . It works, but the sound it puts out is not right , crackling etc. . Took it to a shop They verified the amp is gone. They suggested a replacement amp at $1799.99 with $150.00 to install, etc.
The Amp in the car is a UT Lowe 65. 12-6901 881 The system is DSP .
I have read on line that the Lear Amp is a better amp.
The Lear amp for the E-39 is the Lear, 65.12-6 905 119
I see these amps at E-Bay for between 100 and 250 dollars.
If I do get an amp at E-bay, I understand that it may work for 30 seconds when turned on, then shut off till it is coded to the vehicle.
Question: Should I stuck with the original UT Lowe amp or can I go with the better Lear amp and just have it coded?
Thank You,
Bill

Hi Bill - I believe you can upgrade to the Lear amp and don't see any reason to pay $1800 for a replacement. I would also look at the radio unit itself when getting the amp installed to make sure all the fuses are working properly. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
