Its the cats
Its the vaccum leak or something else
Hey, its my first post here and I come in a dire need for help. My e46 m3 exhaust noise suddenly changed as I was driving to work about a few weeks ago. The tone of the car's exhaust changes as I drive and it warms up, so it has me stumped what it could be. The car currently has a catless headers with a cat placed a little further back in the exhaust. I was thinking that the cats were clogged, according to my father who used to be a mechanic. They are after market cats and I have the oems, was wondering if swapping it out with the oems would fix it. Any suggestions? Would the exhaust leak the car currently has be an issue?
It would be a place to start....my guess is you hit the bump and the stuff inside the cat broke and may have jammed itself somewhere in there blocking some flow in turn changing the sound coming out of the pipe......kinda weird and a long shot but possible tho.

Yeah I'd agree. Sounds like you somehow changed the internals of the exhaust.
