    What is this???

As some of you know I'm getting my water pump done. Take a look at this estimate, something seems way off. Like the labor and parts aren't adding up. And the parts, from what I've priced, shouldn't be this expensive.

I will say that this is a reputable shop, I've gotten work done there before, but nothing this involved. Am I bugging, or is this...off?

That price is way out of line. All parts for the water pump, thermostat, hoses, clamps, bolts, coolant, etc should total about $500. The job itself is a bit of a pain, but that labor estimate seems a little high. That spark plug labor estimate is crazy high too.

    Hello

If your shop will let you bring in your own parts I have linked the versions we carry that are much less below. These are High quality aftermarket parts most of which are made by the same companies that produce them for BMW. If you have any other questions please feel free to PM me.

Those labor charges are insane. $224 labor for SPARK PLUGS? Go somewhere else.

Wow, I definitely couldn't afford a BMW if I had to take it in for such things.

Yep, I know of at least one place that has a Pierburg water pump kit with thermostat, coolant and screw kit for around $400.

You didn't get ripped off. If the shop is trustworthy, and experienced, the prices weren't out of the ballpark.

    Parts seem right...
it says the shop charges 80 bucks an hour which is stupid cheap but lets do the math...
    diag-1.0 hour
water pump can be anywhere from 2.8-3.5 hours
thermostat can be anywhere from .5-1.0 hours.
so on the high side figure 5.5X80.00 = 440.00
    that estimate is too high.

This is a reason to learn how to replace your own spark plugs. It's quite easy and you'd more than pay for the tools with the labor savings from one change.

The labor rate is only $80/hr? Maybe they double the hours to make up the difference!

96 bucks for plugs is crazy. I just did plugs and they were 37 and some change at the parts house for the ngk plugs. And 2.8 hours for doing plugs is nuts. Taking my time I had it done in 1.5 hours removing the cowl and putting it back. But I'd bet the labor quotes these hours and that's what they use.

Why don't you just do the spark plugs your self? Easy job; I did mine plus coils for 225 lol. And the cost for water pump is a little steep I had my HERB CHAMBERS BMW of BostON, MA replace mine and only costed like $800, will tell you exact price when I find the paper work, but this is quite high.
