All fellow 8:ers arounds the world. it is now official. No more rumours. THE NEW 8.
https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/italy...17?language=it
Also, another good news, my production company Petrolicious was hired by BMW AG to make a film about the E31, the 850 CSi in particular to help with the promotion of the new 8 series. At the center stands our fellow 8:er Taylor Patterson as the owner/subject in the film, with myself as the head producer, co director and concept writer and our great friend Gary Corcoran as consultant of the piece. Special thanks also to Reinhard from 8coupe.com and Roger Wray of BMWCCA for helping me find an array of amazing 8 owners around the world as potential subjects of this film. This was a secret until today, but not anymore. I was waiting for the official announcement.
Mark your calendars for May 23rd, for the world premiere of this film alongside the unveiling of the new 8 series on May 26th in Italy.
Regards
Alec Cartio.

(May 23rd). Congrats on that Alec! And all the featured cars! Looking forward to seeing the film. The silhouette looks nice. Lets hope it looks more like that than it did the 6 in some of the rumor stories.

I miss mine sometimes . . . . positive this one will be unaffordable until it, too, depreciates due to outrageous repair costs.

Wow that pic actually has me quite excited. Altho I see that the unveiling is still a "concept". I smell a price hike in value for our cars...Alpina folks are probably eyeing that quarter mil mark .
Alec, you must be beside yourself my friend!!! Congrats.

Thanks a lot buddy. Yes. Very much so. As 8:ers, we are part of history now having been recognized by bmw themselves to help them spin the new car into motion. It's priceless for someone who has loved the 8 since its birth.
I'm definitely getting the new 8 too; and this time BRAND NEW. For once I want to be the original owner of an 8 and keep it forever alongside the csi.

Very cool! Congrats Alec!
This should definitely help with the values across the board no doubt.
BTW I though Taylor sold his CSI a while back??
Seems like we went thru this already with the i8.
What's the connection?

The announcement just hit motor trend as well. From the pictures on MT (older ones), hopefully they will "sex" it up a bit. Looks a little to 6ish to me.

Congrats Alec - it will be an amazing production I'm sure.....almost looking forward to seeing the film more than the new coupe!
I wonder what chassis/platform the new 8er is based on...would it be the 7-series?
Agree that it needs to be more than just a bigger 6-series, to appeal as an iconic new model.
At the outset they're naming it a coupe, but hopefully there'll be a convertible model to follow.
Current:
1994 E31 850CSi Sterlingsilber/Anthracite Buffalo
Previous:
1987 E28 M5 Delphin
1986 E23 M745iA Arctic Blue
1986 E24 635CSi Polaris
1976 E3 3.0 Si Arctic Blue
Congrats! Can't wait to watch it
Although I'm not too happy about there being a new 8 series.... the i8 association was bad enough when having to explain to people that the E31 even exists.

Silhouettes looks nice. But the other pictures looks ugly. Looks like a Monte Carlo.
Here's a quick comparison (using Mark850's silhouette photo).
BMW-E31-G14.png
That silhouette comparison is amazing for those who plan to own both. It would be great for a poster in the garage. From the new 8'er silhouette I wonder if it will be without B Pillars and have a retractable rear window much like our 8's. Hopefully BMW is smart and sticks with the same engine scheme that we have now that being an 840 with an V8 and a 850 with a V12. Unless they bring in a 860 V12 Flagship supercharged or TT but that's wishful thinking.

In 2018, there will be a new sub-forum added to the 8-series forum here. Time to welcome the newborn kid into the family. Many more years of owner discussions and topics to look forward to. Specially the 2-generation owners. Many side by side comparisons and fun talks.
