Hi,
If you look and evaluate all criteria such as;
High sound quality capabilities, excellent build quality, performance and usability, consistency, price, ease of installation and after sales warranty/care, then it'd be a modern double DIN shallow depth head unit from the likes of Alpine, Parrot.
In the E38 section, there's some E38 owners who are installing some of the cheap chinese head units. Those units are low quality/grade for everything so it's a gamble as to if you got one, IF it's a fully working unit that crucially, remains fully working longer term. If it does, consider yourself 'lucky'. If it doesn't and various issues and niggles show up, you'll most likely not be happy.
Alternatives include fitting a Car PC, retrofitting the OEM 16:9 monitor, Mk4 GPS computer setup or retrofitting the NBT.
Depending on your budget and what you'd like to do/achieve, you can look at the posts which cover all the above and make your decision based on all the information.
Cheers, Dennis!
Thanks, I think Im going to go with the MK4

Good choice, I've the mk4 with updated software amd maps, a TCU for calling, and a tv module for rear camera and tv.
Eventually i will be doing pibus.
If I were to give my Touring a first name, I'd probably name it "Alan".
Mostly because I like puns.
