Hey Group I am hoping someone can help me identify the clicking noise that has got my wife concerned thus me under the gun. I have a 2003 530i with an auto trans. When the engine is cold and it is started all is well until you put it into forward or reverse, at that point a clicking noise starts up, it sounds like it is coming from the front of the transmission area. After a few feet of movement it goes away. Sometimes you can hear it when you pull up to a stop and begin moving but not very often. I have lifted the car and had my son shift the car into gear to try and locate it but my hearing is so bad I can't locate the origin. I pulled the trans. awhile back to fix a shim plate rattling and I might have caused this but I can't be sure, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I would definitely recommend getting the car's codes read. It'll give you a great place to start troubleshooting. Also, if you're able to; post a sound clip online, it may be easier other members identify that way. Best of luck!
