'01 740i Sporty Shorty on BaT

Just posted my 740i Sporty Shorty on BaT and will add to Craigslist in Portland tonight. Thoughts about my asking?

2001 BMW 740i M Sport Anthracite w/black leather. I am the second owner and a BMW enthusiast.
A true factory M Sport and meticulously cared for. All maintenance has been completed including timing guides as preventative. Brand new Conti Sport tires. Upgraded widescreen with navigation IV, heated front/rear seats, new struts, new hood/trunk struts, floor mats. Have all receipts for maintenance work

Engine runs smooth with lots of power and transmission shift flawlessly. Entire car was just detailed and paint shines perfectly with very few dings. No rips, tears or stains in any of the leather or carpet. Just replaced headliner due to failure. New color is Anthracite black and included the rear deck too. You’ll be hard pressed to find another Sporty Shorty in this condition. All work has been performed by Matrix Integrated, BMW Portland or Kuni BMW its entire life.

    New Tires
    Timing Guides completed as preventative
    Wide Screen Navigation IV
    Front Struts

    Hood/Trunk struts
    Glove Box struts
    Windshield cowl
    Window regulators
    C-Pillar rain trim

    Headlight gaskets
    Strong Strut
    M-Pars
    Anthracite Headliner and rear deck

    Winter Floor mats
    New carpeted floor mats
    Front Brakes
    Installed factory rear electric screen
    Electric folding side view mirrors
Factory BMW valve covers and gaskets just installed

So BAT is auctioning the car? If so, I would remove any and all pricing info from here. You don't want people to be able to find it IMO. And BAT doesn't like when you advertise the car elsewhere with pricing when you agree to do an exclusive auction.

I'm going to follow this as it's essentially identical to my car (other than my slight personalization mods). GLWS and yeah, don't try to sell it anywhere else, including here.

Do you have a link to the BaT auction as I can't find the car there.

I'm assuming he has submitted the car to bat. It generally takes a week or two for everything to get prepped for live auction. Bat and the seller have to come to an agreement on reserve if the seller doesn't want to list with no reserve.

Ah I see. I looked and didn't see any 740is on there.

Wish BAT auctions were around a few years ago when I sold our mint condition euro W126 280SE. Might have garnered a few more dollars than CL.

Good luck with the sale OP. Lots of folks will be following this one!

Bat is the place to sell a car. Sucks to be a buyer on there though. I think they are losing their way though. They used to be more selective. Seems like they might be getting a little greedy and I think it will hurt them in the long run.

Well if you are a buyer on there you are probably a baller with some coin so that doesn't suck too bad .

Maybe a STOOOPID question... I'm looking at a similar car on the east coast. What kind of mileage do you get (assuming you drive conservatively). I have a 740il that is good enough on the highway.

BaT is great for the seller, but for a buyer it sucks because the prices get crazy jacked up. When I'm buying a car, I want to pay as little as possible, which is why I go out on Craigslist and haggle down the prices on broken cars. I'm definitely not BaT's target demographic haha

Yes so I submitted for listing and was approved but only at no reserve.

I'm not that familiar with BaT and didn't realize it is an auction site.

Do list people list with no reserve?

What does no reserve mean? That if my highest bid is $5 the car goes to a new owner?

The last few e38s did very well. You will still get more on bat at no reserve than you would anywhere else IMO.

Thanks for the feedback everyone it's very much appreciated.

I'll probably go with BaT at no reserve and will post the link here when it's available.

Very interested to see how this goes, as I'm considering listing my Canadian-spec 01 Sport on there (minor differences in options to the US version, plus an Individual interior pulled from a UK market 740i).

Link us when you have it up, looks excellent.

My '01 740i Sport gets 14 mpg in day to day commute/city driving, and 24 mpg highway at 70-75 mph. My '98 740iL got 18 mpg city and commuting and 30 mpg at 70-75 on the highway, so the later Sports definitely see a fuel mileage hit. But it's SOOOO worth it, IMO.

That's most likely due to the 3.15 diff ratio in the 01 740i, it keeps your engine RPMs higher when cruising when compared to the stock 2.81 diff in the non-sport E38's.

Will keenly watch this as I am interested in selling my '01 Sport on BaT and have no idea what the value of it might be.
