Hey guys, I've been getting some pulley noise so I removed the belt and checked to see which were bad and it seems that a few are! I have some specific questions about each pulley;
1. Water pump. There is definitely some slack/ side to side movement. Is the pulley solidly attached to the water pump? I imagine I will need to replace the pump, but is there any need to replace the pulley? From my research it appears to be simply bolted onto the pump and doesn't have any moving parts/bearings. Is this correct?
EDIT: Pretty sure I have my answer. Pulley can be re-used, just replace the pump.
2. Alternator tensioner pulley. This is noisy but not loose. I will replace it. I have the mechanical one with the 16mm bolt attached. When looking for new tensioner pulleys, I see just the pulley for sale, without the metal piece that has the 16mm bolt protruding. Are these separate pieces? In a couple of DIY's I've seen, they have replaced the thing as a whole unit, not just the pulley with the bearing. Are these parts being sold just cheap crap that won't work or can I separate the pulley from the metal part?
EDIT: Pretty sure I have my answer. It's a whole unit.
3. Power steering pump pulley. This is loose and has side to side movement. Can the pulley be separated from the power steering pump, or does side to side movement indicate a bad ps pump shaft?
Thanks in advance for your advice
Penis,
Rob.

Water pump pulley is bolted on with 4 small bolts, the play you're seeing on the pulley is most likely the bearings about to fail soon. It's a good practice when replacing water pumps to also replace the pulley since they're plastic. Heat gets to them over time and they can get brittle and crack eventually catastrophically flying apart. You have two options for a water pump pulley, OEM plastic replacement or ECS tuning has an aluminum replacement for about $35 if I remember right. Your power steering pump most likely has the pulley pressed on. My guess would be that your bearings their are starting to fail too.
As for the idler/tensioner assemblies generally anytime they start making noise I just replace the pulley itself and move on. They're cheap enough to diy and know it's done.
