@ Alonso.
Apparently he played tennis with his trainer for the rest of the session...
It's been 2 and a half bloody years at the back of the field. Top talents have quit mid-season before, Kimi most recently. At this point I don't think anyone would fault Alonso for tapping out. If I were him, I don't know that you could pay me enough money to endure that kind of humiliation race after race.

I really feel bad for him though. It's such a shame that he and the team have to endure such humiliation.
I was not a fan of Alonso until this started happening. I think he's handling it well.
Well, he qualified in 7th place. Not bad.
Yes to Alonso for P7!! I've said before that he's my favorite driver, but even I expect him to bolt if this is just an anomaly.
I do have a technical question about qualifying that I can't find an answer to, and I'm hoping the bf.c brain trust can help: in Q2, the best lap you have are the tires you start on. Does that only apply to those that make it to Q3, or everyone?
I think it's whatever tyre you qualify in Q3 you will start on that tyre. Q2 doesn't matter.
Aye, it's Q2.
Started with a bang. Er, a few bangs.
Botta's is such a hack! Takes out Kimi & swerving all over to block Vettel.

You ask any ricer, any serious ricer. It doesn't matter if the other guy is racing or not. A win is a win.
What a pass!

e30 325i, the mighty 4 door granma mobile....Gone
e39 528i, 4 door sports tank

He didn't have anywhere to go on Turn 1. He held the line and Kimi just got pushed into him. Racing incident.
Re:the Vettel pass, if you watch again, Bottas made ONE defensive move and then moved over to the left in response to Vettel. Vettel was the one swerving all over the place.
Yeah that was awesome. Loved to see that.
And again I ask, what's the point of differing tire compounds if the softest tires do 30-odd laps? Grrr.

The top 10 start on the tires they set the fastest lap on in Q2. That's why people like starting position 11 instead of 10 (Q3) because everyone from there (11th) on back can choose their tires for start of the race - P11 back aren't limited to any tires they ran in quali.
You're new to F1 aren't you?
Bottas defended to the inside (but not enough). Vettel knew he had to have the inside otherwise he could be pushed wide (bullied) if on the outside of turn 1. So he made sure he got the inside. Bottas' defense was fine and totally within the rules of F1.
Also, Bottas was using a PU that was supposed to have been retired. Lewis was using a brand new upgraded PU. Hence Bottas' PU making a mess of itself prior to the end of the race. It was due for light duties before the start of this race.
