So here are the details on the car... What do you guys think? Good deal for 10k? He's claiming 410 hp...
SMG triptronic 6 speed transmission, Midnight blue with peanut butter brown interior. I meticulously took care and babied this car for the last 6 and a half years.I have all service records and upkeep of maintenance and have added extra BMW custom performance parts to this vehicle over the years. I used to commute from CT to NY for work so all of the miles are due to highway mileage. 18" mid dish chrome and black rims, Rear spoiler, carbon fiber and chrome rear exhaust diffuser, Blisten suspension, Valeo 180 amp high output performance alternator, 6 Dinan BMW high flow throttle bodies, BMW ECS lightweight high performance flywheel with increased throttle body response and acceleration, M3 CSF lightweight high performance radiator, K&N intake system, Borla headers, agency power custom exhaust system with titanium tri color tipped exhaust pipes, BMW light weight underdrive Euro performance pulley system, white angel halo front headlights, smoke tinted front corner lights, smoke tinted and red LED Enzo rear tailights, new coils, new NGK platinum spark plugs, new CCV Vale, new purge valve, new belts, new fuel filter, new O2 sensor, new mass air flow sensor, new fuel gas vapor charcoal canister, new thermostat, just got a brand new tune up and valve adjustment at 150,000 miles along with BMW inspection ii maintenance check. I replaced the factory Harmon Kardon stereo system with an Alpine audio system. All 8 interior speakers are alpine type S surround sound. I put over $10,000 worth of upgrades into this vehicle. The car was completely stock with 333 horsepower when I purchased it. Now it has been Dyno tested with an output of 410 horsepower. The car drives excellent, it sounds excellent, and it looks great
No replies?
Without FI - there is no way that is is 400 hp. The seller is BSing you in a big way.
I wonder what else he is BSing.
There is no way of knowing the value without a PPI.
+1
PPI is the only way to go when you will be spending more than 10k on a car.
Next step will be all the receipts/papers for the mods. Even the CSL isn't more than 365HP, and that's with pretty much the same mods that was done on that motor, so show me the dyno sheet.
Lastly, anybody who says they have driven a M-3 kindly isn't telling the truth, and how you tell this is by looking at the rear tires replacement intervals:
10k or less very aggressive
15k or less aggressive
20k or less average
Tires on the backs of these cars don't last very long, and I was able to get about 25k out of my last set before hitting the wear marks.
P.S. once you get 10 posts, the forum will allow you to upload photos.

Hey Sleeperls93,
That seems like a BS ad for the car. Look into getting a PPI. Are you looking into a 6MT or SMG? Also, do you have a specific location that you're looking into (i.e. east coast or west coast)?
P.S., I wouldn't pay for a PPI on a car whose owner started the discussion lying about the car.
I would like a manual.. this car is an smg.i am in NY, Long Island area. Why do you think the seller is lying?

With that mileage, you need to make sure the subframe and rod bearings are done. That's at least couple G in labor/parts.

Mostly stocks
As others have said, no chance that makes anywhere near 400hp at the wheels. A stock E46M3 will make around what, 295-300rwhp if we're being generous? The seller is straight up lying, unless he neglected to mention an FI conversion. No way some pulleys, throttle bodies, intake/headers/exhaust, and I assume a software tune of some sort (though he doesn't mention one) gets you +100rwhp.
I would run far away. Not worth your time trying to deal with someone like that.

1999 M3/2/5 - Titanium Silver - Track/Weekend Toy
Come to Dallas, I sell you my 02 Vert with 114,000 on it. SMG. Blue hard top. It just came back from a check up and tranny, diff fluid change. It got a clean bill of health. $11,000 and it's all yours. Cal has lived in Cali and TX.
I'm looking at M3s currently as well. Service Sticker in drivers door jam with 422 punched indicates rod bearings have be fixed. Most dealers will run the VIN too if the sticker is not there (apparently some dealers didn't bother with the sticker when repairing). As for the sub-frame I've found with the car on a lift you can see serious damage without dropping the entire rear sub frame, and I'd steer clear. If the damage is moderate, hairline cracking, it might be visible but likely hidden under the cross-member. I've conceded that if I buy an M3 it will have only slight cracking or none at all and I'll install stiffeners immediately.
Now to highjack just a bit, but still on the shopping theme.
I don't see any VIN stickers on fenders, doors or trunks on these cars. Only driver's door large black sticker. What gives?
I'll have a PPI done when I find a strong candidate but drove one yesterday, first time actually behind the wheel, and was underwhelmed by the acceleration. Engine felt slow to rev and I expected stronger pull from 4000 on up. This was a 6sp three-pedal example with 140k miles. I'm comparing to my 530i auto, e36 M3, e36 325is super-charged, Mazda Speed3, Miata turbo. Total butt-dyno to be sure but I expected the e46 M3 to be noticeably quicker....and it wasn't. Ok the 530i is a pig, but the others would easily hold their own. PPI should show compression/leak down issues but anything else to look for that might limit power?
I don't think the E-46's have the VIN sticker on the panels, as I have never seen them. Of course there will be one in the door jam, as that is expected.
