I'm in WI, so temps from -10 f winter to 100 f summer. My dad's 2003 4.4 m62 is leaking a little oil and I think he always takes it to quick lube places which give him 5-40. I run 20-50 in summer and 10-40 in winter in my 88 325ix. Any reason not to do that in his x5? Thought it may help with leaks.
I know I should fix the leaks, but he's not interested in taking everything apart for a minor leak. I just replaced his valley pan and water pump, so I bet it couldn't be too much worse to have gotten to what's leaking. Anyway, I appreciate any advice. I constantly have to stop him from putting stop leak like products in the oil and coolant. It's really a beautiful car. My mom has a 3.0 tt x5 from maybe 2017, it just isn't the same.

First off quick lube places are famous for creating oil leaks because they never replace the oil filter cap Oring for instance, two don’t let him put any stuff in the coolant system or oil system, third, I would run 5w40, but check the owners manual for winter recommendations
