Meaning of Build Codes?

While researching some stuff earlier I came across some odd build codes that seem to be shared with all BMW's. Build codes are, for the most part, universal - so I'm wondering if these just may be a placeholder of sorts? Either way...

What's up with that? I don't think you can find a car equipped with any of those, which is what made me think they are placeholders. But its certainly odd?

They are universal build codes. I dont think any car comes equipped with 870/871/872. They must just be placeholders for future options or build packages

Pretty sure my E30 came with all three of those ingredients hidden somewhere.
