I love the reply regarding the E 85, I'm going to reach out to my mechanic friend today.
With this 318 rear end that's in here should I run it till it breaks or can you recommend what I can swap it out for
Do it once, do it right.
Sounds to me personally, you need to do some soul searching to figure out what you really want... A reliable turbo car. Or one that you spend money on, and spend more time working on it and replacing parts, than driving it.
Buck up, do the HG and studs. Surface ATLEAST the head, don't be one of those dip****'s that just replace the head gasket without any sort of mating surface prep, expecting that a MLS will seal. These engines are NOT cheap to run RELIABLE boost through. Do a little bit of searching through other people's threads man... Learn from their mistakes, (we all make/made them)
I'm not trying to discourage you or be rude in any manner. But it really sounds like you are trying to do this on a whim.. And doing things like that with these cars, generally end up in a sob story and lots of $'s. We are all here and more than willing to help, all we ask is that you put a little thought and effort into this too. No one wants to feel like they are wasting there time!

Friend/ mechanic had been doing turbo set ups and tuning for years on Honda motors.
Not familiar with BMW but does take advice and is excited as I am
I am a nut and bolt guy. This is first build.
At this point I am looking to make a good reliable build with options to upgrade in future as well.
I m gonna research head remo/surface/space and studs and discuss with him further
He agrees with the E85, with 1000 cc injectors and the right pump
Thanks guys
Ps how do you post pics lol
I see you are running e85
What pump and injectors are you running with the 2

Again, not to be rude... But what you just told me is what worries me. I do not doubt his abilities as a mechanic, or yours for that matter! What I doubt is practice. I understand the Honda/Japanese motor game, and how some people like to do things. Typically, cheaply done. Ya know? And that's just not the right way to do these motors. They're finicky bastards. Best advice I could give regarding head/block/HG and surfacing.. Is to do it once, have the head surfaced to 20 RA or less, and pressure checked by a reputable shop. Go buy yourself a CES cutring/spacer. The one regret of my build, is that I didn't go with a Cutring style HG... I don't have any issues with my MLS... YET. But I know it's coming. It would of been a much better piece of mind for me if I would of paid a little extra for the right setup the first go. In my opinion, the only other thing that is really important to do right, is the tuning. There are plenty of options here on the forums... RK, Nick-G, TRM... just to name a few! All of these guys have done a bunch of these tunes, and know what their doing. People will argue back and forth about this, because we are human. But call each of them up, and make the decision for yourself.
The easiest way to post pictures IMO is to save them to your PC, then when you are commenting on the thread there's a little button on the top that looks like a picture frame. Just click this and navigate to the picture(s) you would like to post.

Do u really want a turbo car, or just more power? Because for the money it takes to turbo it you could probably do a 302 swap or a iron block ls1.
I've been calling troll alert since I saw this thread, honestly.
You can google how to post a pic, if you can't do that then you shouldn't be putting a turbo on a BMW.
End of Story.

Ok , looked up def of troll, each has own opinion
True I lack big time on the posting stuff and even more on mechanics but that's all good
For anyone that's interested, i d like to share , for what my opinion is worth
My rapidspool top mount tubular manifold arrived and looks badass
I am hopeful the cx intercooler kit arrives any day as well as the precision 6262 T4 turbo. These parts recommended by my Honda turbo builder friend
Gonna start build in garage and then tow to friend shop when he has room/time to assist
I can not attempt to remove head to do gasket, etc
I would like to due arp studs, one at a time change with more research
I am gonna run e85 for sure, and will install recommended pump
This is not a dd
The WAR chip or RK sounds good as a kit with injectors and maf , still need to finalize and order as well as blow off valve
Just to be real, life is short
This was a stance build I did with my son, all M3 bumpers etc and beautiful paint.
He is leaving for College so dad is gonna build something for me for the first time.
So call it what it is,
Great day!
Except for skip the MLS or else you will hate life in less than 20k miles (ymmv).

Was trying to get a taste of a turbo with no head work on a lower boost and e85.
Buying better turbo parts incase I want to go to the next level. I have access to a S50 as well. I was thinking if this doesn't hold up and I want to continue, I would invest in the S50 being prepared 100% before swapping and using same turbo parts and making real power
At this point trying to get a taste.
Am I dreaming lol

The 20 year old M50 on E85 should hold for a little while with a good tune and moderate boost, but I think you will end up having to pull the head before long to do it right with lower compression. If you don't mind doing a lot of the labor over again then try it.
Gotcha
I will check around to see what shops would do it and weigh it out
Thanks
If you are running E85 full time there is no reason at all to run low compression. I run 12:1 compression with as high as 32 pound of boost with stock rods and a stock reinz headgasket. Why in the world would you want 9:1 compression on E85?
Yes, E85 will support more boost on stock compression, but the stock head gasket, pistons and rods will not so the OP will be back in there before long doing things over again.
I don't agree. A new stock head gasket with resurfaced head and block will hold a lot of power on an 84mm bore. As will the stock m50 rods. They are beefcake.
Appreciate feedback
Does the top mount usually clear ac?
What size fuel pump do you recommend with the e85
Has the megasquirt worked well?
What are your power goals? I run two AEM 380 inline pumps with a fuel cell, so not really relevant for most people. Up to now I have always ran the DIY megasquirt 1 and 2 systems and I am now switching to an MS3Pro Ultimate. The megasquirt plug and play system that is in the works right now would be an excellent choice for most people, as would the Vems plug and play unit or any of the reputable stock ECU tuners.
400 to the wheels would be great but less is ok
The motor has vanos and I will be able to have it tuned on dyno
Being 1st set up, don't need to go crazy
but need sufficient for E85 and injectors (1000 cc?)
My tuner mentioned megasquirt
If you have a tuner local that you want to use then look into the megasquirt and vems plug and play units. 1000cc injectors will be good for about 650-700 whp on E85. With a fresh headgasket and studs 400 whp should be reliable for a good long time. A cutring gasket is better yet if you think you will make more than that eventually. For a pump you can get buy with a smaller pump like an AEM 320 which would support around 450whp on E85 or you can jump up to something bigger like a walbro 450 but that will require an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator
Everything with this a double edge sword. You can either throw money at the car and overbuild it, or you choose the budget options like most of us did and slowly upgrade parts here and there as you go to support more power. You end up spending more money that way in the long run but you'll go broke trying to make every part of the car bulletproof at once. Most of us guys that have 700+ whp cars have probably sunk $20K plus into our cars (some much more than that) but we did it over the course of 5 years or more.
makes sense
Gonna start install of turbo set up on m50 that is currently in car as is , stock motor
Get a taste and consider prepping the S50 for next set up with correct motor prep if I want to continue in the game
Appreciate feedback
