Got my car detailed this morning. Got it back and the airbag light is on. It won't reset using peake.
What could the wash/detail have done to cause this? How can I fix it?
Car needed to be inspected today and this got in the way of that...super bummed.

Maybe disconnected a plug under the seat during detailing.

Pull the ABS codes, they will tell you where to look.
My guess would be a connector under the seat or on the seat belt tensioner on either seat.

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.
Actually, i'm seeming to recall a low battery can trigger the airbag light. Forget if that is this car or my M5. I know the battery is on the fritz...maybe I should change that.
Had to jump the car the other night...

That code is for (I believe) the steering wheel bag. At least if my interpretation of Peake is correct.
And definitely pulling ABS codes won't help.

Humm...I disconnected the airbag and turned the car on to trigger the fault and it threw 01 and 0D...so stage 1 and state 2. So magically my airbag stage 1 decided to die? I actually have two, I wonder if swapping the other one in will work. I put the wheel from my e39 M5 in my coupe years ago...first time there's been a problem.
Sneaky devil you, hiding the code and description in the tread title where no one would look....
It could just as easily be the clockspring. If you pulled the bag and it was loaded with ArmorAll like we discussed, then I'd say it's probably coicidental. Possibly tight turning lock to lock in the service area had the clockspring cry uncle.
No testing electrical until you have a know good battery.

Cool, I'll get the battery checked...under 3 year warranty and it's a year old.
There was not armorall under there gunking anything up.
he should not have had to do anything other than drive it straight forward about 15 yards. Should I do a bit of full lock to full lock turning?
The seat was definitely moved around and I see the connector underneath can be an issue, but looks like you have to pull the seat to get to that.
Easiest things first...get the battery checked.
Thanks All
Yup, sorta got to go with slip ring. Mine went out while I was driving and not even near full lock. Inpa called out Driver airbag and firing circuit if I remember correctly.Tried to repair the one center trace (so thin) with solder that had cracked "open" at that 180 deg. bend inside, and it lasted a couple minutes. A new one from Germany and 15 minutes gave me back my hairbag.
Well, just as the light mysteriously turned on, it turned off a few days later. Also a giveaway that this was a battery issue was that my emissions readiness was not set either. I got the airbag light off, went for inspection, and my evap and 02/cat readiness was not set. Drove it to NJ and back for work and passed inspection just fine.
So annoying that things like a low battery cause so many issues that aren't indicative of the faults thrown.
I picked up a generic airbag scanner off amazon for like $25 bucks and it worked as well as the peake reader...
