New Hood Insulation - Should I also use an aftermarket adhesive?

    Hey guys,

Anyone have experience with installing new hood insulation? Just received some OEM insulation to replace the missing panels, and wondered if anyone could share their experience with this. Should I also spray on some 3M adhesive, or will the factory glue (that already exists on the new panels) work just fine? Any tips?

    Thanks!

I would use the 3M either way - unless they're brand new pads and have a solid seal around them.

Is it the large sheet or the 3 pieces of foam?
If your e30 runs bad, switch to Megasquirt first. Then try new spark plugs, cap and rotor, wires, oxygen sensor, crank shaft position sensor, coolant temp sensor, air flow meter, idle control valve, throttle position sensor, digital motor electronics unit, harmonic balancer, fuel injectors, engine harness...

Sounds like the foam, as the sheet is held on with screws.

The adhesive on the pads should be fine as long as the surface is clean. Clean the area and then do a final wipe down with mineral spirits or similar.

A better choice for cleaning would be denatured alcohol, acetone, or lacquer thinner. They evaporate very quickly and leave no residue. Mineral spirits is slow to evaporate and may leave some oil residue.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Brake clean works very well, also.

I went through this on my E24 and, IMHO, there is only one way to remove the glue before putting on new foam. Unless you like to spend A LOT more time with other methods.

My thread over on BigCoupe.com where I did this very same project on my E24
