Technically, this car really only cost me $240 because I did a cash side job for $200, got a $100 tip for fixing a mini instead of towing it, and I had a full scrap car (that I got for free) in my yard from a bunch of different projects filled to the roof that netted me $220, and a $40 tip for changing a tire at 1am in a storm lol.

One benefit of being a tow truck driver and a on the side backyard mechanic lol

After putting 40 miles on it tonight....the clutch is what I would consider perfect, trans shifts smooth, no SES or limp mode....not even a hiccup....

Definitely needs brakes, tires on the summer wheels, and an oil change....so idk what the P.O. was thinking was wrong with the car or who told him it was all shot....but it's not.

No codes on a scan? That is weird. Hey, don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

I scanned it, the DME had 29 codes in it, nothing current tho. All I really remember was a misfire for each cylinder and a multiple misfire code, and two "internal fault" codes that aren't present, but in the history that I can't make go away. So I cleared all of them, those two won't clear, drive it 40 miles with a combo of city and highway, and nothing. :/

    The other 20 I forgot.

Shoot man, you appear to know what you're doing, so unless you're getting some current code indicating impending doom, I'd just enjoy my $800 car. LOL. Geez, I still can't believe this.

You kind of have to wonder though. I mean, I don't know squat about M3s. I've driven a few when shopping, but that's about it. I just wonder if it had a water leak someplace that might have caused a short that went away when it dried out.

I suppose it's possible, but I can't remember what the weather was two weeks prior to looking at it in the first place, because it was sitting for two weeks by the time I got there to see it. They did say it was towed home. I guess since I'm kinda up in the air on brake parts right now could be prudent to go check the fuse block under the floor and under the hood in the DME box.

This is my first 3 series let alone an M car....so I have a pretty steep learning curve ahead of me lol

Haha for me I can't stand the wheels that are/were on it...I like the m sport wheels so much better. I've never liked the wheels that are on it on any BMW, to me they just look bulky, tacky, and out of place.

The M Sport wheels are getting new rubber sometime this week and are going on. Idk what to do with the other wheels and snow shoes tho....I honestly can't grasp how anyone could drive this car on snow or ice....just way too much balls for a lil car on slick surfaces lol

I totally agree, regardless of the mileage I'd just slowly put money in to it so it gets up to date on ALL maintenance/issues and just garage it until there's dry cement and just rip it everywhere and anywhere it goes haha. I do that with my 330ci right now because I live in central cali where snow is non existent. Congrats on ur score man, my next purchase is an E46 M3 (gonna do my best to find a gem)

I really have no intention of driving this in the winter months, so the snows are useless to me really. The previous owner dailyed this car when he had it, and know it spent a fair amount of time in San Diego then he came back here with it. Looking under the car I couldn't believe how clean it was under it. You honestly could eat off the underside of this car which is amazing considering it was a DD thru the Minnesota winter months.

Yeah, being from California my whole life and working on cars since I was a freshman in high school I've never seen a really ugly underside of a car. What I consider ugly and grime people consider it clean compared to winter area dailies lol

Well every bimmer is going to have oil and grime. There's no such thing as a BMW that doesn't leak as was told to me by a master tech at my local stealership haha so there's always gonna be some there. This car is just immaculate outside. Interior leaves something to be desired tho lol

I would not feel bad at all. If you had beaten them up on price after they said 800 then maybe but I think you're okay. If you asked them they may even say you did them a favor... One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Think that's more what it came down to was the guy was overwhelmed with the repairs he felt the car needed, and it was more of doing them a favor of sorts perhaps.

Didn't even argue the price, just said I'll be there Friday lol.

Ordered akebono euro pads, oil change kit, a new hood roundel and hazard/lock switch (realized it wasn't working today) so soon as this all gets here, hopefully sooner than later, I can get some good progress underway. Also ordered the new tires for the Summer wheels today too. Gonna be a whole different car here pretty quick I'd say!
