Record after record at The Ring.

    Dude is a BEAST!

I posted this in the non-M section but I figured I'd post it here too since some of you don't go there (and understandably so).

Last week, we showed you a video of driver Alex Hardt setting a solid 7:31 "Bridge to Gantry" time around the Nurburgring Nordschleife in his prepped BMW E36 M3. The time isn't too crazy by modern standards, but for a 20-year-old car, it caught our attention—Hardt even claims it's the world's quickest 'Ring time for an E36. Now he's set a new time in his blue track car, and it's a lot quicker.
This time around, Hardt was able to wheel his E36-generation BMW M3 coupe around the Green Hell's "Bridge to Gantry" layout in 7:25—six seconds quicker than his claimed record lap. As we said in the last article, the Bridge to Gantry layout excludes the back straightaway to make way for exiting and entering the track during tourist sessions, so it's a shorter distance than any official Nurburgring lap. But since it's the layout run by nearly everybody who attends an open-lapping day at the famed circuit, it's considered a standard timing measure.

Six seconds may not sound like a bunch of time, especially when coupled with the 'Ring's monstrous 12.9-mile length. But every tenth counts, and six seconds is a lot of tenths.
Watch below to see just how Hardt pulled it off.

Yeah I saw that yesterday. I assume it's a Euro and it's certainly totally stripped and caged down to lexan windows. Maybe 2600 lb and 325hp? Definitely fast laps.

That's nuts that he has to hope family haulers going 90 mph less than him don't drift into his line....Crazy Germans!

That's what makes The Ring so challenging. Same goes for going 150+ on the Autobahn, hoping some family hauler isn't coming into the left lane.

Excellent in-car videos - it's striking how smooth and relaxed he is. The shifts are paced and deliberate, the steering input is never herky-jerky even when recovering from a slight wiggle.

I would wager he's in a pure Zen / Senna state of concentration for the whole lap.... for that is the true path to victory.
