I am not sure what to do. I got a 1/2 tank of bad gas. After getting fuel I stated getting a rough idle immediately on start up with the drive train malfunction and the check engine light. I went and got a code reader and I am getting the P052B code.
The weird thing is that I get the drive train malfunction until the car stops idling rough - which last about 30 seconds. It only happens on cold starts. Once I have been driving for a while everything is normal. It may not be related to the bad gas, so I am reaching out here to see if any else has had the same problem.
I got the gas this past Saturday. At first i was only getting it occasionally, now I am getting this problem after every cold start. I drained the gas tank as much as I could, and went and got some techron gas treatment and 93 octane gas. I mistakenly put 87 octane in the car.
The car is a 2011 535i GT. Any help is appreciated.
Getting the same code on a car I picked up at auction. Wouldn’t start. So I replaced the starter. Now it starts up after a long crank. But runs really rough. Codes are p052b cold start A camshaft position timing over retarded p15df cold start fuel pressure too low p300 Random misfire and p301 cylinder 1 misfire

I have the same car, 2011 535i Xdrive gt. Check out my other posts. I got the malfunction issue too and started getting misfires the car eventually wouldn’t start without getting boosted. I live in Canada so weather is cold here everything pointed to the battery. I had the battery tested the battery was good. Turns out in my case what fixed all my problems was simply registering the battery for the car. I guess if you change the battery and don’t register the battery with the car the computers in the car do not recognize you changed it and the computers alter a lot of things with a car as it knows how long a battery should last. The non bmw dealer I bought the car from told me they changed the battery 2 days before I bought the car but didn’t register the battery cause they believed it was nonsense to register the battery. I did that and magically my car was fixed. I am however having misfire codes come up again on various cylinders and will begin checking plugs and wires and injectors as I don’t know if they were done. There’s 116,000kms on the car and the plugs I believe are supposed to be done at 100.
I have a post out on it looking for help but nobody has responded yet.
what reader are you using?
Oh also while I was looking for a car this time last year I was looking at an x6 that had a bad battery, it needed to be boosted too and the 2 times I looked at the car as soon as it was started the drivetrain malfunction was there and it would go away as the car ran and slowly charged the battery.
get a voltage meter and check and see how your battery looks in terms of voltage sitting off and also running.

It’s fairly simple. It you will need one special tool. That is a slim wall 12 point 14mm spark plug socket. No other socket will fit down the narrow channels. Hardest part is pulling the coils. They’re very pesky to pry out. Just pop the plastic engine cover off. Pull up on the plastic connectors holding the harness to the coil. Pry out coils. And voila. Spark plugs. As far as my p052b code. It’s bad news. Someone on another forum suggested a low oil problem. Well my oil was low. But even more. Look:
now at first I assumed the car threw a rod. But I got it to turn over and start after replacing the starter. Which was bad by the way. And installing a new battery. But it ran like sh/t. Engine shook violently. And didn’t sound good. So if it were a rod. I read it shouldn’t turn over at all. Idk. There are bits and pieces I can see through the crack. Look like plastic and metal bits.
