I recently sold my 2004 645Ci convertible. It was my 8th or 9th BMW and a lovely car but an electronic (& mechanical) nightmare. I just test drove a decent '07 530iX wagon and (aside from lower power) liked very much. Two issues showed on the test drive:
1) The sunroof operated fine but the inside panel which was closed completely before I opened it kept getting hung up about half way open when I attempted to close. I didn't notice any large debris in the track, but I didn't look too closely.
2) Step-tronic automatic transmission. It seemed to shift fine in normal Drive mode, but when I pulled it toward me for "sport" mode and shifting there was no change. it continued driving as if in D and wouldn't shift manually. Also, no change in RPM. I had similar transmission on one of my 540is and it was fine til about 180K miles, lots of issues with the 645 at only 90k miles. Any thoughts?
You push the shifter to the left to get into sport mode and then pull back / push forward to change gears.

I know, but there is NO change from normal D mode.
