I did mine a couple yrs ago. I followed the writeup and got 99.9% of my pixels back. I'm very happy with it now. I used a strip of cardboard for the extra pressure.

I'll try to post pics of the pixels when I have some time..

Please let us know which vendor you used that did that, so others don't experience the same issue. I concur with the recommendation above to use Paul. He's done many clusters on here. The guy I used, took a little longer than expected and doesn't do it any more, but it did turn out perfect.

I saw a bizarre scene at the yard last time though. Somebody had the wide nav out and the trunk drilled and popped like an E38 pro by the 2nd day the car hit the yard and then the strange part, they took out all the big modules like dsp and dme and cluster etc and smashed them all up.

Probably some low life punks, I've seen kids go into the yards and bust up headlights, clusters, modules and such.

    Blackknight530i .

I've stopped doing basic ribbon/LCD repairs and only do full circuit board replacements now (aka premium cluster repair). If you plan on keeping the car a long time, this is the only way to go. In 2004, BMW redesigned the circuit board to eliminate the pixel failure issues by using a connector instead of gluing the ribbon to the board. I take these newer clusters, mileage correct them, and code them to your car to be plug and play. These will last longer than the life of the car without pixels failing.

If on the other hand, you just need it fixed for a couple years or so (possibly more, but can't really be guaranteed you won't have them fail again), you can go with any of the many providers out there that just replace the ribbon or sometimes the LCD and ribbon (like I used to). www.bestpixelrepair.com does good work and at a very good price, especially if you use the BMW CCA discount code (if you're a member). Personally, it's much more trouble for me to do it and I don't make enough to be competitive with those other places. I would much rather just offer a premium upgrade that nobody else is doing.

If anyone is interested in what I can do, please send me a PM or email to mail@fixels.repair.
