I plan on replacing my motor mounts soon, but I also need to replace the power steering lines that go to the box. I've been putting off the power steering lines because my rtv patch has been holding up and I'm dreading the tight work space above the steering box. So I'm thinking I'll lift the motor, replace the power steering lines, then replace the mounts. Would lifting the motor give me that much more clearance to replace the lines, or is this a silly idea? It's the M62 (for the mobile users)

Certainly you would think it would give you more space
You need to raise the motor to replace the mounts so do the PS line at the same time.
Got a crows foot? That would help on the top banjo bolt.
I did this job when installing my m5 box, lift the motor till the fan touches the shroud, no special tools needed, the hardest part is keeping the crush washer on the banjo bolt while trying to get it started in the hole, do not force the bolt, thread in by finger only
E85 fueled, Eaton m112 supercharged 4.5L M62TU, TTV racing flywheel, Spec stage 2+ clutch, 88c thermostat, eibach sway bars, wavetrac 3.15 lsd, m5 steering box, Quantum 340lph fuel pump, Dinan camber plates, some powerflex bushings, Supersprint headers, M5 cats, 2001 gas pedal upgrade and many other things done. all diy by me
Put some grease on the banjo bolt to keep the washer in place.
+1 on the tip of using some grease to hold the banjo bolt washer. It will take longer to get the washer in place under the banjo hose end. Two sets of hands help the most. Motor up or motor lifted the second trick is to have 3/8 " drive extensions with lots of swivel joints to hit the bolt. I taped the bolt to the socket to begin and then pull it loose to torque down as the last thing you need down there is a piece of tape under the bolt when you think your finished.

This. Definitely second that. Thread that sucker in by hand...can be a bit of a pain to do while keeping the crush washer in place, but you do NOT want to cross-thread that thing. Grease to keep the washer from dropping out is also a good tip.
But yea...definitely need to raise the engine a bit to gain better access of the P/S hoses going to the steering box, so might as well do them at the same time you do the engine mounts...

Thanks for the info. -Turns out I only had one of the lines, so I had to order the other one today. I'll report my success when the job is finished.
