    E36 328i idle questions

So I've fixed a lot of my engines issues and it passed safety however recently at idle when I'm at a stop light or w.e. Sometimes my car will surge and hit 500 rpm and do this a few times in a row before stopping it is an automatic but this doesn't affect drivability it still picks up and goes like crazy just want to get all my gremlins out does anyone know any. Fixes my check engine does not come on and there are no pending codes either

Check for vacuum leaks, cracked intake elbow, PCV hoses, ICV hoses, Intake gaskets, Injector o rings. Also try cleaning the ICV, if it is gummed up it won't respond properly and will overshoot the idle RPM. It should freely spin and "clack" when you rotate the ICV back and forth in your hand. I have had some so dirty it was hard to move the vane.

This p much sums up all idle issue related stuff lol. If it doesn't affect drivability I'd first suspect a vacuum leak. Spray some carb cleaner around your intake and see if the idle fluctuates.
