Mercedes lead by only one point while Vettel is still the championship leader.
I think the race was a hoot start to finish specifically because passes are so difficult. Sure we want more chance taking and tighter spacing, but that doesn't diminish tension

What won Bottas the race was the way he was able to increase separation---albeit incrementally---in the first stint. Even more than the start itself, as brilliant as it was. Forced Ferrari into a defensive position strategically.

Regardless, ultrasofts going 30+ laps is utterly ridiculous.

He was on the podium with the drivers after the race, didn't need to be watching BBC. I didn't really catch his exact words, but he's definitely an annoying guy and says a lot of stupid stuff. Drunk Uncle seems about right, but not in an endearing way.

Nothing specific. Uncle Eddie is just cringe-worthy to watch.

Give him a microphone and exclusive access to three young, impressionable men and he tends to get very excitable. Pretty sure he would have started massaging Valtteri's leg at the end, had the cameras not been rolling.

"Come, Valtteri... sit with me. We old guys get tired. That's it. Shhhh... don't fight. Let it happen. How does it feel? To win, I mean?"

I can't help but sigh audibly anytime they use that tool for podium interviews. Or anything, really.

Semi unrelated, but if not for Chris Evans, Eddie Jordan would've easily been the worst part of new Top Gear.

^Yeeeeikes. No thanks. I always turn off the broadcast after the champagne. The post-race podium interviews are just stupid, IMO.

Yeah, more and more I find myself leaving the moment they put the bottles down. There are exceptions, however. For example, I will always watch Mark Webber conduct podium interviews.

Would like to see them go back to post-race interviews in a closed door environment. Much better.

Let the guys celebrate on the podium instead of making it a cringeworthy event.

    Oh and 1 other thing:

Formula 1 has repeated that they don't get involved in politics. Therefore they should not allow politics to get involved in F1 = don't show the corrupt vile Putin glad handing.

    +1000

That was a really, really awkward, cringe-worthy moment.

What I don't get is why when lapping cars the lead cars are able to use DRS. When Bottas was passing Massa on the straights he was able to use DRS, that doesn't make much sense to me.

Yeah, luckily races are won by pace nowadays... Not even the undercut was such a threat because as we saw today the tires don't completely disintegrate after a very certain and short period of time.

What I meant by the start was its relation to Ferrari: nothing they could do about that, it was out of their power to react to that directly. But everything that was in their power they did pretty much exactly spot on, giving them a chance to almost challenge for the win.

Ultrasofts going 30+ laps seems to be a pretty optimal situation IMO, as that still means they have to pit but the tires are good and durable enough that they can push, fight and DRIVE PROPERLY instead of saving tires all race. Of course part of it is not overall life of the tire, but instead how fragile they are in regards to momentary strain and overall aggression. But all that ties in with overall life too, probably hard if not impossible to design a tire that you can drive like a maniac, on the ragged edge all the time and yet has overall life limited to about 20 laps...
BMWs are fun in the snow too...

Everyone loves spraying champagne, no-one likes the talk about feelings after that.

(Maybe that'd change if there would be women celebrating on the podium...)

What was Putin thinking in that moment:
"we should take over Finland next week so these 2 brilliant guys will be racing under Russian flag then"

    + infinity

It was even worse when Petrov was in F1, as he was born in an area stolen from Finland...

I believe part of the take over was for Bernie to still be around (in case he was needed) but basically his role has been diminished to nothing but answering any questions someone from Liberty may have.

I wonder when Liberty will get off their bum bums (I can't swear as per forum rules) and bring 4K streaming to the US. I hear Sky puts out Grundle and fat-arse (Crofty. is arse ok? BoldUlysses will fix if not) in 4k now.
