I recently pulled a 5 speed from a 81 320i.
I have been reading the various 5 speed swap threads but i didn't see much on the flywheel.
The only place is see the oe style for sale is at Bavarian Autosport PART#: (11 22 1 270 292) $250
I didn't get the original flywheel out of the car as i ran out of time.
Can you refinish the face of these flywheels or just buy new?
Also i need to go back and get the driveshaft and rear diff.
The 5 speeds gear ratios probably wouldn't like the auto diff ratio?
You can refinish it once for sure. I live dangerously and just deglazed mine. No issues, but I wouldn't do it on someone else's car

Emory cloth over the whole surface works well, I have done this before a few times and you cant tell difference between cut by lathe or sanded with emory cloth, your cleaning the surface to get the clutch to bite on the flywheel. The first time I asked around about this all the shops were in a panic as they wanted the money to cut the flywheel down, ran for the life of the clutch no issues.
Wipe clean the surface face with acetone(glove, mask, ect) or similar to clean the debris and remove oil, grease, dirt and so forth.

Also while there , a new rear engine oil seal can be considered its behind the flywheel.
