I have decided to change the sagging roof lining. Easy enough job to remove the interior roof from the car. Now that it's sat on the table in the garage I noticed that BMW used a black beading to help secure the shell to the inside roof of the car. It's still tacky after 24 years! I brought a sample of it to Advamced Auto Parts and they had no clue where I could buy it. Does anyone have a part number for this product or where I could get it.?
As an aside, I've decided to change the interior roof cloth and trim parts including the grab handles, sun visors lamp surrounds to BLACK. Car will have an all black interior instead of the lower half being black and the upper being beige which was the original color.

Hi Shogun. It's not s gasket. It's a type of adhesive that is applied to the roof lining before it is secured onto the roof. It's black in color and is tacky in order to help keep the roof lining attached to the cars roof. It has remained tacky all this time and is very strong. I think k the only people who would possibly know what I'm talking about are those who have removed the roof wheel in order to redo the sagging lining....

I believe it's refured to as butyl tape i think Wurth sells it

No need for a butyl tape or something else, the headliner board is secured by the screws of the handles above the doors, the screws for the sunvisors, holders # 3 at the rear (buy these new, they often break)
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_1572
and the L headliner has in the middle additional clips, do not break them, see here on my website, scroll down http://twrite.org/shogunnew/fixes/headliner.html
In case there is a sunroof, more screws/bolts http://infinitier.ddo.jp/e32/page/ma...inte_50812.htm
Or better to say, DO NOT use tape, I have made many headliners and never used such a tape holding the headliner. It is much easier without such tape.
Here you can see the backside of the headliner from Johan, no tape http://bmwe32.masscom.net/johan/head...headliner.html

Understood. Thanks

I have a feeling this beading adhesive you're talking might be the backing of the factory headliner material. When I re-did my headliner I bought 4 yards of factory material and the back of it looked like the garbage that fell on me when we pulled the old material down. Here are a few pics. Check out the reverse side of the natural color liner.
