    Nav question....

Why can't I ever clear out my distance field after I use the nav? Just stuck racking up negative mileage??

That's a $100K question many have asked. The only way to zero it out is to disconnect the negative battery cable. But that also zeros out every OBC stored "averaging" data like CONSUMP 1, CONSUMP 2, SPEED, the CLOCK, etc.

EDIT: I just thought of something. I wonder if doing OBC TEST 21 would reset it? I know that the TESTs you can access when the cluster has been unlocked are for checking the functions of the IKE...and TEST 21 is a reset that can be used when replacing the fuel level sensors (in the gas tank) to do a reset so that their data doesn't continue to be buffered which would take multiple tank fill-ups for them to accurately display the correct amount of fuel in the tank.

If you've unlocked your cluster...try TEST 21 to see if it will set the DISTANCE back to zero. If it does, post back.

I'll give that a shot and see what happens....I hate losing my consumption because I love how my car lies to me each time at the pump but I'll live if they go away...

So actually, after playing with it, I learned I can set it to whatever number I want. So I like 5k oil change intervals, even tho I have my lights set for something around there....The lights are a guess at best based on fuel mileage but I'll just set the distance to 5k on my next change and use it for that.

It's not like setting a new destination will change it anyways lol

Just an FYI...the 5 green lights of the SI display turn off based on fuel CONSUMPTION...not mileage. To use mileage is a OK in my book, too...it can be calculated over time by tracking your fuel consumption and mileage etc. Some owners use the lights and change at the interval set using the coded fuel consumption for that specific model & engine...then some owners change their oil at a shortened interval (usually cutting it in half...changing the oil etc when 3 green lights go off)...then some change the oil based on mileage.

SIA III started with the 1996 e38 then rolled out with each new model/model year debut. I think the new gen BMWs may be on SIA IV or V:

I changed my consumption numbers for my interval lights in PA soft, so mine are yes consumption based, but I did the math off my avg MPG that I calculated and took that number and converted it to liters.

So my lights equal out to about 5-6K intervals now

I think the distance is the miles to your destination input in the nav. Once you reach your destination it keeps counting miles as you drive subtracting that past 0.

So I wonder if you can put in a destination, terminate guidance with the terminate command, and have the distance stay left alone.

Well, idk. Something to try I suppose. Everytime I open up the nav it always has the same destination in it. Like deleting it doesn't matter. Next restart the same destination will be in there again.

So in some respects, could work, but in my situation it may not lol.
