F02 needs oil change... what tools do I need outside filter, 17mm socket, 8.5 qts oil

Trying to change 2011 750 Li xdrive Oil since dealer said I'd have to do it myself since I only have 3700 more miles to reach 12k??? My oil needs changing. What other parts and tools do I need? Wanting to change it this weekend while I have time and a lift for $8 an hour. Thanks

Not trying to be an a-hole, but try the search for basic maintenance (and most other things).

I would not wait 12k between changes. I go every 5k, and the oil is still as black as can be.

You don't need a 17 mm wrench. You'll need an 8 mm allen socket, a 6 mm allen if your oil filter has a drain on it. You'll also need an 8 mm socket to remove the access cover if its still in place. And don't forget the most important part: a oil filter removal tool. These have to be a specific size, and I'm not sure if you'll find one at an auto parts store. You could possibly use one of the generic strap wrenches, but access is very limited and I don't think it would work.

Oh, you need 10 quarts of oil. Not 8.5

Sounds like you may not be familiar with the online BMW TIS website...which is a great resource for DIY ownership. I highly recommend that you save/bookmark the link for future reference. It is an invaluable resource for looking up not only DIY information...but for just basic understanding of features and systems...as well as wiring diagrams and component locations.

Click the following link then enter the last 7 digits of your VIN (or select appropriately for you chassis/model)...then type SERVICE ENGINE OIL into the search box. This should give you written instructions for changing the oil along with pictures and other links for further information: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/
