Hello all,
I have a project 1999 m3 coupe that I am starting to bring back to glory. I also have a 2000 i323 that I bought about a year ago for cheap to hold me as a daily driver while I got my other cars sorted. I no longer need the i323 and it's not really worth anything to sell it.
Is there any value to gutting the i323 engine and using it for misc parts for the m3? I'm know the engines are different (not sure by how much), but under the hood they look to share quite a few parts. The i323 is in much better condition than the m3. it only has 110,000 miles and was garaged for most of it's life, so the plastics, etc. are in much better shape.
Does this sound like more trouble than it's worth? I was going to just donate the i323 for a tax write-off
Thanks!
I'm confused are you talking about an E36 323 or E46 323? If E46 it should be double VANOS with nothing the same. If it is an E36 M52 (?), then the head casting is the same, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, oil pump and pan…dipstick. Crank position sensor, cam position sensor, knock sensor…etc..

Keep it as a daily

2000 i323 is e36. It was the last year for that generation (unlike the m3).
There is no keeping the i323. It's either getting parted out for the m3 or it goes. I don't want/need the whole car as I have too many cars with too few places to store them.
I've been thinking, at the very least, practicing on the i323 engine would be beneficial. I intend on doing a full engine rebuild on the m3 and having a spare 'mock' engine might be nice for a newbie like me, even if they aren't identical.
Good plan
