I was looking for an E24 M6 when I stumbled across a 1985 635 CSi in an eBay auction. The car was 3 miles from where I was sitting, so I went to take a look. I ended up winning the bid. It is a nice serviceable driver. Other than a rough idle, it all works as it should. Since this car was local, I decided to message my local independent BMW mechanic who might know of the car. He didn't know the car, but told me of a local M6 that was for sale. The 1988 M6 is in a body shop in pieces and complete (with extra parts) and pretty much ready to paint. I bought it too. I look forward to the help of this forum as I help the 635 to be a little better and bring the M6 to its full potential.
i'll host some pics of the 635 soon. I need to host the pics.
Although my post count is 1, I have been around for a while. I couldn't remember my account information and started over. I DD a 2012 Alpina B7 and race a MINI.

Endeavour to get your post count up so we can see pics! Sounds like you've got a lot on your plate!
Also you can post pics to imgur.com and put a link here. Er, if you can post a link while being a newbie... again ;-)
Cheers,
Ray
I'm looking forward to this thread..

Beanerbmw, welcome to being fully immersed into the E24s. lol. I approached cautiously and only bought one. Always wanted one so now I get to enjoy it. I also love building them so I cant wait to see what you do with your M6,
let me see if I can get some 635 pics up.....
Car is nice. it could use a little love. Drives nicely though. My father had a 633 and I had a 530 in the early eighties. I remembered them being a bit quicker. Maybe I'm just comparing across generations (and to my B7).

the previous owner of the M6 bought 2 other cars so that he had the right parts to do the job. I feel good with only 2! I will have some extra parts with the deal.i
I searched, but found no threads on the bumpers. is the best course to remove, strip, polish and clear anodize? both cars have dinghy looking bumpers.

Congrats on the new acquisitions. I did the bumpers on my car about 10 years ago. I took them to a metal refinisher for stripping. In retropsect, I should have let him re-anodized them. As you probably know, that is an electrolytic process. It was about the same price as stripping them. They originally were not (and won't be if anodized again) as shiny as a chrome bumper but that is part of the appeal to me.
The painter at the body shop recommended strongly against using clear urethane. He felt it would not hold up. Instead, I had them apply 5 coats of a clear designed for polished copper surfaces. The bumpers still look remarkably good.
I also gave considerable attention to the rubber strip on the face of the bumper. I lightly sanded nicked areas to even out the surface, rubbed them with 3M Hand Glaze, washed thoroughly to remove the oil from that product and followed with a few rounds of rubber treatment.
Congrats on the purchase. You have really jumped in hard and deep.
B7? What B7?????
1977 633 CSi RHD Euro. S38B38 3.9L M5 Transplant. 5 Speed Getrag Dogleg. 3.73 LSD. 417hp, 369lb/ft
1971 3.0CS E3 2dr Alpina Special Coupe Racer, 347hp, 295lb/ft
Shipper: the B7 is a 2012 Alpina. nothing vintage. it makes a great DD. I always have my eye open for another Alpina, but they are hard to find in the US.
And then there's SouthEast SharkFest...

thanks for that information. I won't be able to make this on short notice, but I have joined and will look forward to upcoming events. I will be driving my 635 to the BMWCCA annual picnic this weekend.
