Hey everybody,
I am a new owner of a 2001 BMW 325xi Wagon. I have lots of plans for this car, however I am starting with refreshing the engine bay. I am in the process of replacing the cooling system (new radiator, new hoses, etc.). As I was removing the air intake, I noticed a duct attached to the alternator. This was unusual to me, so I checked it out and I discovered a hole in the solid duct (not the flexible one) that attaches to the lower intake (I assume). I'm assuming that the hole resulted from rubbing against the belt. In looking for a replacement, I ordered one and it turned out to be too big. I have been looking for the correct part, but cannot seem to find it. Can anyone offer a solution? I am willing to patch it somehow (temporarily) but I'm not sure whether a heat resistant tape would do the trick?
wrap it in gorilla tape, do it nicely and put back together, make sure its not close to belt this time. will be just fine.

Or you can order the correct part(s) and do it right:

Make you you order the correct one based on what type of alternator you have (Bosch or Valeo). Input your VIN # and it usually takes care of itself but never hurts to double check.
Thank you. I was able to determine the correct part number (using the VIN) and was able to locate it very quickly online, and actually less expensive than the first one I ordered. I am now wondering though, if I input my vehicle info on most of the parts sites they all say that this part won't fit or that they cannot guarantee that it will. It doesn't appear that my car is different from other 2001 BMW 325xi models... I'm going to trust the VIN part lookup and order it anyway.
