    ZF320 Detent rebuild Fail!

So I purchased a zf320 to swap into my boosted S50 e30 a few months back. I read that I should do the detents before I put it in. I ordered everything including the drift set and set about putting them in. I thought that I had everything oriented correctly but upon installing the trans I seem to be stuck with 3,4 and 5 alone and when I really crank on the AKG shifter and DSSR I can get reverse, but it's really far over and it takes both hands. I have not run the car at all and don't plan to until I figure this out. I am guessing that I have the reverse detent in wrong as it is pushing the shifter to the right and won't let me get into 1-2. Pulling the transmission and looking for answers tonight. Any ideas please help?

    ZF320 Detent rebuild Fail!

You need to install the pins with the correct orientation.

There's a roller wheel which rolls up the end of the detent pin. It needs to make contact with the bevel instead of the edge. If you don't, it will be very difficult to get into 1-2 and R.

I bet if you remove the pins, it would shift into 1-2 and R.

I know this because I had the same issue before. What a PIA!

Cool luckily I noticed the issue before getting anything else hooked up. I will start by pulling the reverse pin.

Go to the 2nd page. You can check your work before reinstalling by twisting the selector rod joint with a screw driver through the hole. Should twist about a 1/8th turn with some resistance.

    Messed up transmission detent installation

Nice! It's a painful but easily corrected mistake
