Hey, happy people from bimmerforums!
I found a:
2008 BMW X5 4.8I
4 DOOR WAGON/SPORT UTILITY
4.8L V8 FI DOHC 32V
GASOLINE
ALL WHEEL DRIVE
with 80,600 mi for $13100.
It has the following extras:
-Cold Weather Package (Heated steering wheel, heated seats, headlight washers)
-Premium Package (both driver and front passenger have highly adjustable seats with lumbar support, wood trim, auto dimming rear view mirror, auto dimming power fold side view mirrors, bluetooth, garage door transceiver)
-Panoramic Moonroof
-Leather interiors
-Adaptive Headlamps
I am going to get it checked by a mechanic just to check the condition of the engine.
Is this a good deal or not? How many more miles can I probably add before I have a major repair coming up? How expensive are repairs on average per year?
Thank you very much for all your advice in advance
I think the PPI report will tell you exactly what the longevity of the car will be. Price seems fair - depending on how many miles per year you drive and the overall condition; this car could require minimum maintenance. There is a big one at 100k; but other than that maybe $500>

I'd try to get it closer to $10k, trust me, you'll need the extra cash. I sold my 2006 X5 4.4i Sport (full extra) with 65k miles for $15k two years ago. I got it with 53k miles, two owners, seemingly pristine condition. In 12k miles, it cost me $9,000 in repairs. Plenty of areas to check - air suspension, panoramic sunroof, water leaking inside - yes, very common, stuck door handles in cold weather, rear lights going off, V8 won't start when cold (could cost you up to $5k to fix...). Good luck.
Thank you all for the very insightful comments. I sent the car to the mechanic and he told me that there were two "small" repairs to be done at the oil valve and the coolant valve which would total to $2400... Since the owner didn't consider to do these repairs himself or deduct those repairs from the price I ended up not buying it anymore. Too bad, but if these small repairs were a sign of what was about to come I think I made a good choice.
Thank you again for the good comments. Hopefully I'll find a better car soon
I would not recommend the BMW v8, go with the 6 cylinder much less expensive to repair.
