Hello, I just wanted to ask someone who has any kind of knowledge about fitting 17 inch wheels on e36. My question is, is it possible to fit 17 wheels with 215 tire, without removing inner wheel well liners from a wheel well? Would it be a problem with 7.5 or even 8 inch rim width? Thanks!
Depending on Aspect Ratio. Stock 1995 E36 M3 came with 235/40R17, where as the 1996+ M3 came with 225/45R17, both on 7.5 width wheels. I've heard that 245/40R17s on 8.5 width wheels fit. Generally, the problem becomes tire-to-strut clearance not tire-to-wheel well/liner.
I think he's talking about an E36 non-M. They came with much smaller wheels than the M3, and I don't know about the clearances on those models.
Yes, the car is 1992 e36 320i sedan.
Ah, didn't know that.
Then yeah, the stock M3 wheels are ET41 17x7.5 (225/45-17) and 17x8.5 (245/40-17). Those fit obviously. You can also fit 17x8.5 ET41+ with 245/40-17 all around without mods. Any wider than that and you'll need some amount of spacer up front to clear the strut, and if you go wider than 17x9 ET41+ 245/40-17 in back you'll need to start rolling fenders. You'll also want/need to have the ability to adjust your ride height and front camber if you want to push the boundaries of tire fitment.
I'm running 17x9 ET42 with wide 200TW 245/40-17's all around with 12mm spacers in front and no fender work.
Thanks alot! I'll give it a try!
