Hey guys,
Just need some quick confirmation here. Power steering went out all at once. Have fluid and belt is where it should be. Pump, right?
Thanks.
Never mind. It was the pump.
Internal pump seals I would think. R & R the PS pump:

Replace the fluid reservoir, as it also contains the systems only filter:

I thought I saw a thread about disassembling, cleaning and reassembling the PS pump. IIRC there's only one o-ring in there to replace. Be sure to get the pump vanes back in the rotor in the correct orientation. That is, if you're inclined not to spend $300 right off the bat on advice you got from the 'net. No slur intended on Mikyzz4 or his abilities. I imagine there could be issues with the rack, but usually they'd result in fluid all over the ground.
It's surprising what a complete drain and refill of your PS fluid can do sometimes, when it seems that your PS is FUBAR.

Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to add value to these threads, either by pictures or by descriptions, so the next person with the same or similar problem stands on your shoulders.
I pulled the belt to do the spin test and the shaft spun right out of the pump. Completely let the impeller go. I just grabbed one from oreillys.
I didn't do the reservoir though. Crap I didn't even think about that.
I would still consider replacing the reservoir, something caused the pump to fail,
maybe flow was impeded due to obstructed filter? Why risk it?, and inspection may confirm.
Btw, O'Reilly's-really?
Just be ready for shorter replacement intervals, especially if you're not replacing the reservoir/filter.
Yeah, I know, but it happened at 6:00 pm and it was either oreillys or autozone. First day of spring break for my kid so had to get him up and running quick.
The reason for the shaft breaking is from a design flaw with that production run of pumps, not a clogged reservior. BTW, Oreillys often has good reman pumps.
