It may be now but in the past it was the #1 go to bearing to use..and a US company

Timken has always specialized in roller and taper roller bearings. SKF is the largest bearing manufacturer in the world and FAG is/was a German bearing manufacturer that's now part of the LUK INA group.
Taper rollers have always been used in American cars and the Europeans always used the angular ball bearing.

Ok this thread makes me want to get my car up and running again. How do you find that kind of time to get this done?

I have to admit that this project is consuming almost all of my spare time. I have a job where I work early, late and graveyard shifts, sometimes during the week and almost every weekend. I have a house and garden to maintain, three kids to love and a wife to satisfy. But it all works out very well. Love, understanding, tolerance and very little sleep can get you very far
Have time, find time or not. Your work is amazing, you go to the core and out with everything you do here. Most people will replace everything that is old, bad, or needs replacing, very rarely anyone go extra mile to clean, and refinish everything being touch. Not mentioning cost, I don't go this far but recently I've become FCP VIP customer, so I have an idea of what it cost financially
Don't give me wrong, it's amazing and I admired your work here, and as an bmw enthusiast, we can appreciate this. Love it, keep it up bud.

I have to admit that at some point I stopped counting. On the other hand, I know that at the end of this restoration and modification story I will have a great looking car that should be extremely reliable and get me anywhere I want in style without spending the kind of money that I would need to buy a modern car that ticks all the right boxes. And I am not the sort of mechanic that can work on modern computer controlled cars too

That is some really nice wheel fitment! It's lowered just enough to where the wheels fill out the wheel wells, and the tires sit nice and flush with the body. You've got one really nice E38 there.

It's really nice to know that you can put crazy offset wheels on these cars without it looking ridiculous or over the top. If I want the rear arches to be filled like the front ones, it could take another 5 or 10 millimeters. Food for thought
