Way back in December I received a recall notice for the in-tank fuel pump. The letter said that there would be a follow up letter once a solution was available. 4 months has gone by and no follow up. Surely BMW could have figured out a solution by now? Anybody know anything about this?
BMW was holding the parts and not releasing them. They've just now started releasing some of the parts.

It is interesting to me that a problem that can potentially cause fuel to leak hasn't been addressed more quickly than this. Apparently the instances of this happening have been pretty low.
BMW service will order your new fuel pump when you call and make an appointment to have the problem corrected. I called my local BMW dealer and they ordered part and call to schedule the fix when the part arrived.
Not 100% true. BMW is only allowing ordering of certain VIN ranges. The fuel pumps are being ordered, shipped, and replaced by VIN numbers. Exactly similar to the airbag recalls. The dealer will run your warranty history with BMW DCS, and if it says "FINAL REPAIR NOT AVAILABLE" then we can't even order a part. If it says something along the lines of "FINAL REPAIR AVAILABLE, LETTER HAS BEEN MAILED", or some crap like that, then the part can be specifically ordered for that vehicle.

I found out about the faulty fuel pump the hard way. Take your recall letter and have the repair done yesterday! I knew the pump shouldnt have gone out at 50k miles. Went online, looked around and found out about the recall. "Unfortunately", BMW says my vin missed the recall by four months. My out of pocket at the dealer was $1000.00 plus. No amount of talk/calls to BMW would suffice.
