Finally picked up a 1999 Coupe Fern over Magma with a 5-speed. 145k miles for $6200 for reference in tracking value
Too much money? Maybe....Is it cool? Hell yeah...Why did I buy this for a daily driver? I have no damn clue.

gassing it up somewhere in Iowa
Looks clean at first glance sure....
In all fairness it has driven over 400 miles with not even a hick-up
Do the central locks work? No
Do the power mirrors work? No
Does the OBC remotely function? Maybe if you count control check ok?
The e-brake works if we are only judging it based on its ability to lock the handle in the up right position and turn the dash light on, I am not convinced there are any brakes back there to hold anything
Speaking of brakes, feels like all 4 rotors are made out of some damn concrete
Feels like a damn cow going down the road between the alignment and completely bald tires
And lets not forget the big squealing that ensues after warm up in first and second gear, loudest CSB I have ever heard, or at least my guess of what is wrong.
I pulled the trim work off, since it was duck taped on anyway. This dent is pretty gnarly but should pull out.
I can't wait to pull the interior this weekend, great surprises await me.

Pics no worky but congrats on the new ride!
CBlock
Pics don't work, but $6+k e36 and broken or dent should never be in the same sentence. Congrats on your new ride, you paid too damned much.

I think that's a tad high entry fee for all the obvious Stuff Wrong, but that said a salvageable Magma coupe interior is pure hawtness and rare AF, plus 'not-parts-car-status' E36 M3s are creeping up in value.
And the Fern is classy also.
Restore to bone stock? A few tasteful mods? Gutted, caged, $9k coilovers, trailer queen/trackslut? Turbo/SC/e-charger?
Do tell.
Eat, drink, and be merry - for tomorrow we drive.
Haha seeing what people are asking for clean stock and upgraded models in bland colors this made sense even with cost of maintenance
probably OEM+, get the DS2s redone, swapping in most of the front end out of my Z for now will go nicer down the road and plan on a SC
Going to pull the interior this weekend and start the scrubbing
is this an m3 ? don't you have single throttle bodies on your m3 in usa ?
why did you pay 6000 dollar money for this e36 ? i don't know, but around here you get a clean one for that, and one in that shape around 1000-3000 (328i or something of course, not an m3)
Oh Lord the interior was awful.
I have been around some nasty stuff and seen some shit literally and figuratively. Hell, I drive trade ins sometimes at the dealership I work at, but this car grossed me out more than any of them

doesn't look very tasty under that seat
i once found a dead frog under the seat of a another guys car
i still wonder how the owner did not recognize that smell. my theory is, the owner is so fat (he really is) that he created an upper and lower chamber inside the car and sealed it with his fat.
Get that alignment and new rubber sorted, let us know how you like it for driving feel compared to the Z3 (which I love, BTW).
Eat, drink, and be merry - for tomorrow we drive.
Alignment has yet to be sorted as the M3 will be getting nearly the whole front end out of my Z3 to include the steering rack. When I have it out I am going to replace all seals and hoses as it had 180k on it. The Style 32s with Continental DWS06s makes the car feel much better. I have yet to really push the car in any turns so not really sure how it compares. Power wise, the S52 is a different beast than the M54 but my Z for sure had much more power. I can see the S52 getting to the same level very easily though

Finally a proper head unit to get rid of that cassette player. Just need a new dial knob
Have you tried original DWS and if so, how do 06 ones compare to them?
Thanks.
For what you paid I can find an immaculate m3 in my area (SF bay area) that being said you already own it so there is no point in speculating how deep the penis went.
Now for the fun part where the balls touch and you realise it's going to cost what you paid for the car to get it in proper working order. First thing I would tell any e36 owner to do is replace all the bushings with a soft eurethane variant, worn bushings make these cars handle and feel like shit.
I've had both. Only difference I can tell so far is the treadlife seems longer on the 06. Otherwise they drive very similar. There were complaints the first gen ones had squishy sidewalls while cornering. I run them on my Audi which is heavier than the e36 and never felt this way about them. Dollar for dollar I think they're one of the better non-directional all season performance tires on the market.
