Hey guys thanks for checking out my post, so today I did my expansion tank and everything went smoothly except for one part. When I pulled out the expansion tank and I removed the thermostat for the automatic transmission I noticed it was missing a piece compared to the one that I bought off of FCP euro that matched the part number for my vehicle. Was my car running without the correct piece on the thermostat or did I install the wrong part. I looked everywhere I could possibly look at around the car inside the expansion tank area and even on the expansion tank itself and it did not fall off or get stuck. Any thought? Also if it was running without that piece will it cause any damage to the automatic transmission or could that possibly be the reason that my vehicle was leaking coolant? Photos attached. Thanks! (Regarding Auto T Stat pics, right was one removed and left one was the one installed)
You're fine. Thats the right part. Every expansion tank ive ever done has broken the trans thermostat. I bet the tank was replaced before you got it and the thermostat was broken during that service, and never noticed on reassembly.
