SOLD!
Selling my 3.64 LSD for E31
Built it for myself but decided to use 3.91 instead.
For those who has manual transmission 3.64 would be perfect ratio to have.
Backlash and gears layout are within perfect specs.
some building process (it's in Russian but you'll see pictures) 1 ?????????? ????????????? 2 ????????????? ???????????? ?????2 PRICE: $1300.00 shipped.

Thanks!
Not trying to get rich from this sale. And I haven't listed this anywhere else besides E31 forum. Hopefully some of us take it.

I have one in my car and love it. Makes the 840 seem like a two ton rocket. No affiliation. GLWS.
What "thumbs up" really means
How can you confirm a diff is a 3:64 besides the tag?
This ratio is also good for European E31 M70 Auto, as EU E31 came with a 3,15.

So I installed a 3.15LSD on a US M73 850 and it drove really well good improvement, but I have a feeling that the 3.64 would really transform the car!
3:45 works great also.
i have a Jspec/EU 91 850. Would this be a worthwhile upgrade gear ratio wise?

Dancrest not doubting that it is a 3:64, I know there is way a to confirm through the axle & drive shaft rotation, just wanted to know for my general knowledge. If it's not to much trouble a video would be great or verbal details on rotation.
Thanks!
But basically you are looking at how many revolutions INPUT shaft makes for a single revolution of OUTPUT shaft.
I would say no if you have a automatic, 3:91 has made many happy with a 4hp24
Guys, keep couple things in prospective, price to build a custom 3.64LSD from diffsonline is $2600 and turner motorsport is $3000.
This is the same thing for a fraction of the cost.
And Yes the 3.64 LSD is a great upgrade for an euro 4 speed automatic, 3.91 LSD is even more aggressive.
Cheapest way to build a 3:64 LSD is to buy a LSD from a E32, Usually ecology and pic a parts are less than $350, Then use the gearing from a early E31 auto, You can build it and mount it less than $600 You can also get lucky and find a 3:64 LSD already in a E32 as well.
dancrest, I found a guy at a tuning shop that supposedly has a 3:64 LSD diff but it's out of the car. I asked him is it a direct bolt to the 840 he said yes. If anyone knows the turn ratio for the axles to the drive shaft on the 3:64 LSD it will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Off topic how do you upload pictures to the forum? I pretty much finished restoring my (97) 840ci.
Click the "Go Advanced option" and Click Manage Attachments and you can ad 5 pics per post.
Not that simple and not that cheap...
1. You can't reuse ring gear bolts. (I ordered 10 new bolts from BMW)
2. Backlash will be off ( I bought complete set of BMW shims to set a perfect backlash and bearings preload)
3. You have to have correct tools to do this job ( I bought a few special tools just to do this diff)
Done it twice, The donor LSD's were $150 I have a Diff/Trans guy for assembly, No Dealer bmw parts were used.
The prices you are referring to on 3.15 lsds are long gone, cheapest really beat up 3.15LSD has gone for around $750 within last year. These tired lsd units need clutch and dog ear replacements. I have pics somewhere of worn clutches pulled out of 220k 3.15 lsd unit...
Diff shop labor to tear down both diffs and assemble both is $700 minimum, atleast here in bay area.
My point is for someone that would be looking to get one built vs this one its a bargain.
Not true, Several E32's are getting parted throughout Southern Ca, I have 2 now, 1 is a 3:15 and the other is a 3:91 Going to start stacking them up hi since the prices are being raised so much lately.
