I have a 1992 735il and I believe my transmission is giving way. It started shifting odd once I replaced my shifter cable and now, RPM will rise but car would still have no power. I checked the fluids, they're good. What's next? Is it my transmission or possibly an electrical problem
Did you check the fluid level the proper way with engine running and AC on? Here is the detailed procedure http://www.europeantransmissions.com...MWtechinfo.htm
What means fluids are good? Level, color, smell?
Changed already the transmission filter? Cleaned the valve body? There is a filter inside the valve body, that can be blocked https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...hifting-solved
Do you see the selected gear and mode in the check control in the cluster? If not, clean the shift selector contacts http://www.nmia.com/~dgnrg/page_13.htm
does it work when you select R, D, 3-2-1 or all all selected gears not working, that would be strange.
Do you see in the cluster the selected gear = same what is shown in the shift indicator under the gear handle?
Did you install the shifter cable correct?

Have a 1988 735il. Trans won't go into 4th gear. Any thoughts or suggestions?
please answer the questions in my post # 2.
4HP22 repair manual says: gear change functions in cold or warm state faulty:
change 1-2/2-1 = governor dirty
change 1-2 = brake C' and/or C faulty
change 2-3/3-2 = governor dirty, shift valve 2-3 sticking
change 2-3 = clutch B faulty
change 3-4/4-3 = governor dirty, shift valve 3-4 sticking
change 3-4 = brake F defective
I would check first all these things and clean the valve body.
