I have heard of horrendous issues with the 645 V8 valve oil seals going at relatively low mileage. I am concerned to hear this as I have just bought my 2005 645CI with 66K on the clock - there is a genuine BMW full service history with the vehicle. It doesn't show any blue smoke on start up, idle or throttle blip, but can anyone advise me of anything else I should check?
1) How much typically would it cost to have the valve seals replaced? Through a good Indie?
2) Is it worth bothering with as the car won't be doing long journeys very frequently?
I just bought same vehicle model year etc. and have the same future concerns. The car has no symptoms and I am wondering how to be proactive regarding this potential issue. Do the valve seals fail in all these vehicles?
Don't worry about the valve stem seals until it becomes an issue.
Oil consumption of more than 1 quart of oil in 1k miles, or smoking from the tailpipes after an extended idle, such as a long traffic light.

Are there other issues to be concerned with beyond topping up the oil more frequently ?
What might be the approx cost to have a shop correct this?
Thanks!
I've seen some crazy prices for getting this done, but a number of posts I've read suggests you can get it done for around 2.5k at an indie shop. This guy is offering the service for that...
