1997 e39 M sport steering wheel wiring to 1996 e39 540

Hi all,

My first post - here goes..

I have a 7/1996 build (BW70083) 540i - and have retrofitted a suitable single stage airbag 1997 M sport steering wheel.

No errors on the dashboard but I cannot operate the buttons on the wheel.

I have done some reasrach and it seems that there is a crossover for the MFL (Multi Function Steering wheel) where the control unit resides in the wheel from 9/96.

There are still four wires to connect - blue, yellow, whitish grey?, black - not sure if I just need to reposition these to connect...

Any help appreciated..

There used to be some old threads and possibly a video on YouTube about running wiring to the MFL control modules that are located under the dash vs the ones steering wheels that have the MFL-CM integrated into the right steering wheel button pod. This was from a long time ago...possibly 2005-2008 era...and something about running a "white" wire from the steering wheel to the MFL-CM below the dash is what he did (I believe its the I-bus wire).

I believe the forum members names were Cliff & Colin...and Cliff's youtube videos would be under "visionbmw" or "visionbmw7".
