Hello im new to the forum havings transmission problems :(

Whats up im Quinn, i have a 99 528i touring i love it ive had it a few weeks was running awesome. Then was waiting in line at the car wash and my transmission went into fail safe mode. I have been doing tons of reading on this and i dont know the codes yet cause im waiting on a 20 pin bmw connector for my scanner I have a snap on solous edge. But so far ive changed the fluid and filter and it seems like everytime it goes into fail safe the speedometer quits working but then every once in a while its shifts fine. So just wandering if its a bad wheel sensor or is it probably in the wiring sense its intermittent or can a speed sensor drop in and out sometimes. Fingers crossed i get my 20 pin connector soon so i can get the codes but debating on getting a wheel speed sensor to try out for now if anyone has any advice ny ears are open thanks.

Check voltage of your battery when off and your alternator. Voltage below 13 while running might be the culprit. Might.
Speed sensors could do things to the tranny too. Codes man. It all comes down to codes, mostly.
Sorry that didn't help much. Someone else more knowledgeable than I is sure to correct me. Good luck.

Ive checked the alternator voltage and it's 14.11 idling havent checked just the battery voltage. I guess my question is does the speedometer always not work if its in the fail safe mode, or is the speedometer not working most likely a bad sensor. Hoping to have the codes by the end of week just its my only transportation and i hate driving it when its stuck in fail safe mode.

Speedo should still work in failsafe mode. It did when it happened to me.

But, bimmer so it could just mean that the vehicle has possibly achieved consciousness and is trying to rebel against the common "driver-car" relationship.
    Who knows. Codes...

I got codes!!!! The transmission codes are 160 abs/asc signal , 150 CAN: Bus monitoring, 156 CAN:time out for the abs codes 81 pressure sensor circuit 33 wheel speed sensor front left circuit 88 precharging pump. I thought it was the left rear wheel speed sensor that controlled the speedo does the front left have something to do with the speedo to?

Cheap ABS is good. I used them. If you drive the car with the pump out the module needs to be coded with the car
