I asked them to check for anything loose and was told everything was good and tight. Maybe the alignment dude didn't tighten the bolt on the tie rod tight enough, so the threads backed out a little bit.

Well boys and girls, I finally pulled the trigger on some BC Racing coilovers: Extreme low version with the Swift springs upgrade (kept the suggested 9k/6k spring rates).
Hopefully later this Spring I will swapping them in!

I have an E31 and converted over to modified coilover struts from Ground Control with threaded perches on back of car. I am very happy with the results and looking forward to driving my car again after pulling rear suspension out for a rebuild. I am running 450/550 lb springs which is fine for everyday driving and car also felt pretty good on the track, but with a little too much body roll. I have the rear suspension out right now for a rebuild and i modified subframe slightly to accommodate a larger sway bar and then I will install the larger bar on front so I should see a big improvement with reduced body roll. The E31 requires a stiffer rear spring since they are inboard and not a true coilover. Right has been lowered apprx 1.5". I also have a 3.91 LSD to install at the same time. I hope to complete rebuild in the next couple of weeks. I am missing the SCCA TNIA event today, darn it!
I love your garage JDP530! I wish I had at least one of them (a 2002 in a roundie style though )

Just got a text message from my wife, "What is this large and heavy box that says it's for BMW. And how much did you spend!?"
My coilovers are here!! (that was quick)

Finally opened the box

Front springs are 5.5" and rears are 9" tall (extreme low version). Curious to see how they will feel...

I am planning to install them during the week of April 15th. Still tossing ideas in my head about going with a square set of style 95s or 231s.

Cool! What spring rates are you using? I wonder how a staggered set of wheels would look?
Standard: Front 9k, rear 6k.

I finally caved in and got akebono front brake pads, as I am just so sick of nasty brake dust the current pads produce. And while I am there, might as well change the oil.

Today, I've replaced the rear shocks and hopefully tomorrow I'll do the fronts.
The rear shock mounts and bump stops are completely destroyed, but the shocks themselves may still be fine and EDC worked!

A solid day’s work right there. Looking forward to seeing the new stance!
Long overdue pictures (excuse the dirty car). Also, some numbers for curious minds (measurements from fender arch to floor):
Front:
- Before = 28 1/2"
- After = 26"
- Total drop = 2 1/2"
Rear:
- Before = 27 3/4"
- After = 25 3/4"
- Total drop = 2" (had to raise the coils 10mm from the factory preset)
Currently damper settings:
- Front = full soft
- Rear = 10 click from soft
Before shots for comparison (front wheel gap is insane!):

With coilovers fitted, I can now say that ALL of the suspension parts have been replaced. Also had to replace front left brake caliper, since the piston wouldn't collapse all the way to fit new pads.

That looks awesome! Some spacers would kick it up another notch I think, but really looks much better than the high rider OEM look. Nice work!
Thank you! I really like the way it sits so far. I may get a square set of style 95 or 231 and then add spacers.
Also, what should I do with my EDC shocks? I am hesitant to throw them away since they worked and EDC functioned properly...

Fixed my squeaky rear coilovers today -- hopefully the solution will last for a while, otherwise I may have to explore other options.
Symptoms:
- High pitch squeaky noise from the rear, while going under 30mph on minor imperfections in the road
- Noise is only heard outside of the car
- Noise appeared/noted several weeks ago (while driving with the windows down)
- I was able to replicate the noise while pushing up and down on each quarter panel by the tail lights
Culprit:
- I highly suspect the rear springs, specifically bottom section where the coils touch each other
- On both springs, there is a tiny spot of rust, where I believe the coils rub each other = rubbed off the paint and caused rust/squeak (see pic below)
- spring.png
Solution:
- I have unscrewed all perches, cleaned everything up, and then sprayed silicone lubricant on mating surfaces of each perch, strut mount, and spring where tiny bit of rust was noted
- Reset 2mm preload and tightened everything back
Test drive resulted in no more squeaking!! If the squeak comes back, I may try putting a tiny bit of rubber in that spot and see if the issue goes away, but for now... beer time!

Went to a pick-and-pull yard, mainly to find an instrument cluster and auxiliary water pump... but while there, grabbed few extra goodies.
1) '04 or '05 instrument cluster from e53 with software version 23. My cluster is on a fritz!
2) Auxiliary water pump. My current pump is leaking through the weeping hole.
3) Trunk lid grab handle. My handle broke into many pieces a week ago, while closing the trunk.
4) A pair of black e53 sun visors. I painted my original ones, but OE fabric is much better.
5) e53 shift knob. My all-wood knob has a million cracks.
6) A pair of headlight gaskets, where they seal against the hood. My gaskets completely disintegrated, and I was left only with a plastic frame.
7) Engine bay gasket near the fuse box. For some reason, my gasket was pinched and deformed, which may have allowed water into the fuse box (I had an issues with the car after automated car wash).
8) Passenger side mirror glass. I still need to find the correct replacement, as my car came with the self-dimming glass; the replacement is a standard glass.
9) A pair of kidney grilles that I will paint black, so I can try the "blacked out" grilles. These are OE, so they should fit better than knock offs.
10) Grabbed a pair bulbs to make quad brake lights, but then found a pair of aftermarket LED "celis" style tail lights. Not a big fan of LEDs, but my current lights are really sun faded and cracked (water gets in between actual layers of plastic). I may re-seal, paint in red, and then polish them.
Lewt!

Hi boys and girls!
I haven't been around for a while... well, life has been a complete mess for me for the last half of 2019. May 2020 bring more joy!
Anyways, after over 3 years of floppy passenger rear seat pocket, it's finally fixed. First, used super glue to piece together this "mosaic," then reinforced the hinges with some metal, and finally epoxied the heck out of it (no pics, but I did not hold back on that tube of epoxy)! No more floppiness.
Also fixed passenger lower B-pillar trim, as the bottom two tabs were broken.
