    m62tu Timing chain guide question

    Hi,

Yesterday I did my right side upper timing cover gasket and when i check plastic u guide with my finger I notice that I can move a little bit plastic giude. Its means its on the top of u guide the plastic is not fix with a metal part.

In the brand new guide the plastic is solid attached to the metal? Its no way to move only plastic guide?

I have 130k miles and still orginal guids. There is nothing inside oil pan.

The plastic part will move a little bit, it is not bolted onto the metal, just snapped on. If the chain is loose, like in the pictures, you may be able to move the plastic a bit, but when there is tension on the chain, everything should be tight.

The plastic is always attached in a rather flimsy manner, even on a brand new guide. I assume it's to allow the plastic to move a bit so it's not shattered as easily on a cold startup.

You should replace the green o-ring you can see in the head in pictures #2 and 3. That crushes down over time. It is responsible for sealing the oil passage to the lower chain tensioner. $5.

did u do a flush with seafoam or use some atf in the oil or something?
    Thanks!
Before oil change I use this:

    https://www.amazon.com/Liqui-Moly-20.../dp/B00CR3RXTO

Put this before oil change and keep in idle for 15 min then drain oil.

After with new oil I use this:

    https://www.amazon.com/AR9100-Fricti.../dp/B005UNQXOE

I do like that with all my cars and with very good result.

Your engine looks heavily varnished to me. my m62tu has 130k and looks alot cleaner and has no varnish. How long were you using that oil?

Mobil 0w40, Mobile 10w40 full synthetic (one time) and Shell 5w30.

    Maybe Archoil 9100 did this?

pretty clean, do you think the guides were changed before you bought it? or were they worn down when you changed them? Kinda worries me to see that they broke after using the castrol 0w-40 for 10k.

They were never done before and the oil didnt cause them to fail. 220k is pretty impressive for original guides. Here is another members car using Mobil1 0w40 before doing the guide as preventative maintenance. I think he had 130k as well and OCI was 7500 miles...

When I did the guides on my 2003 X5 4.6 the engine was super clean on the inside, even at 213k miles:
